Calls for Papers Optical Sensing for Environmental and Process Monitoring Nov. 7-10. Washington, DC This symposium brings together research, regulatory, and industrial groups involved in the development of optically based monitoring technologies, analytical techniques, environmental and industrial applications, and regulatory methods. It will focus on applications of spectroscopic, radiometric, and laserbased sensing techniques to industrial and environmental air pollution monitoring; dualuse technology transfer programs and other government environmental technology initiatives; indoor air monitoring and habitat environmental controls; tunable diode laser spectroscopy; optical techniques for chemical process control; and QA/QC data validation studies and regulatory issues. Authors should submit 300-word abstracts by May 1. For title submission and other information, contact Orman A. Simpson, c/o Air & Waste Management Association, One Gateway Center, 3rd Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 (412-2323444; fax 412-232-3450) Eastern Analytical Symposium & Exposition Nov. 14-18. Somerset, NJ The sessions will include both invited and contributed papers in all areas of chemical analysis. Among the many topics that will be covered with special symposia are LC, GC, capillary zone electrophoresis, supercritical fluid extraction, supercritical fluid chromatography, near-IR spectroscopy, MS, NMR spectroscopy, thermal analysis, polymer analysis, hazardous materials, electrochemistry, and clinical analysis. Authors should submit 100- to 300-word abstracts by April 15. For more information, contact EAS, P.O. Box 633, Mountchanin, DE 19710-0633 (302-7386218; fax 302-738-5275)
