Friday 29th March 2018 Dear Parents, Learning update this week … This week we have learnt about Easter. We have talked about why it is important for Christians and looked at how Easter is celebrated around the world. We have made Easter cards by decorating eggs with patterns. We have explored which animals come from eggs and which do not, talking about how animals are similar and different. After the holiday we will be … Introducing our topic ‘What is Hattersley like?’ looking at our local area. Starting with looking at our own homes. During the topic we will be talking about different types of houses, such as detached, semi-detached, terrace, flats, etc. the rooms in our houses and the furniture found in each. We will also be looking at the different materials we find in our homes e.g. bricks, glass, wood, metal, plastic. We will be looking at the books The Three Little Pigs and ‘The Jolly Postman’ and doing activities based around these too. We will look at the different buildings found in the locality. e.g. schools, cafes, shops, fast food places, super markets, churches, train station. We will also be thinking about people who help us and different forms of transport.

How can I help my child at home? Talking homework: What is the favourite room in your house? Why? Superstar learner’s homework: Complete the ‘All about my house’ worksheet with your child. If possible stick a photograph of your house in the box or draw a picture. Please generate as much discussion as you can about your house. What type is it? What is it made of? Talk about the outside features such as windows, walls, chimney, roof etc, as well as names of rooms and the furniture in them.

Thank you so much for the effort you put into our book making homework and the ‘Egg-citing challenge.’ You certainly had some ‘egg – cellent’ ideas, we were all very impressed. Thank you everyone for all your effort not only with all the homework this term, your support is very much appreciated!

You should all have your Parent Consultation appointment times in your homework folder. The meeting will take place in the Year 4 classroom again. There will be chairs outside the room, your child’s folder and books and displays of work nearby for you to look at. I look forward to sharing your child’s progress with you.

Thank you for your support. Please come and speak to Mrs Mayers or Miss Boyle or Miss Flynn if you have any questions or e-mail [email protected] Wishing all a lovely break and a happy Easter. Kind regards, The Reception Team Please turn over for the homework comment box.

Please comment on how your child did with their homework:
