GETTING IT DONE: THOMPSONS ROAD UPGRADE TAKES NEXT STEP The Andrews Labor Government has taken the next step in the $175 million upgrade of Thompsons Road with the contract for Stage 1 works awarded today. The contract has been awarded to BMD Constructions Pty Ltd with construction to commence by the end of the year. Stage 1 works will remove the level crossing on the Cranbourne railway line in Lyndhurst with a six lane bridge to be built over the railway line. Marriott Boulevard to the South Gippsland Highway will also be duplicated. New paths and improved lighting for pedestrians and cyclists will also be constructed, which will improve connection to and from the Merinda Park train station. The second stage of works will include the duplication of Thompsons Road from Dandenong-Frankston Road to Marriott Boulevard and from Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road to Berwick Cranbourne Road. 10km of new shared use path for cyclists and pedestrians will also be constructed along Thompsons Road, including 8.2 km on the north side, and 1.5 km on the south between Western Port Highway and Evans Road. The upgrade will include replacing the roundabout at the Western Port Highway with traffic lights to improve traffic flow. Stage 1 will be completed in 2018, with the full project completed before mid 2019. Quotes attributable to Premier Daniel Andrews “We’re cutting travel times by removing this level crossing and duplicating 10.7 kilometres along Thompsons Road.” “We’re building a six lane bridge over the railway line, which will improve safety and cut travel times for the 26,000 motorists that travel on Thompsons Road every day.” Quotes attributable to Minister for Roads Luke Donnellan “The Thompsons Road Upgrade will reduce traffic and travel time, make the drive safer and support our growing population.” “We want Victorians to spend less time stuck in traffic and more time at home with their families.”
