Ladies Home Fellowship Ministries Inc “The Beatitudes: Reflection &Transformation” Session #2 The Kingdom of God begins as AN INSIDE JOB. What is a Beatitude? Two Parts: 1. ________________________________

2. ______________________________________________

Matthew 5: 1-4 Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him.2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” 4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” “Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted.” Jesus is basically saying “_____________________________________________”. Isaiah called Jesus “a man of sorrows” (Isaiah 53:3) FIRST we mourn ____________________________ . It’s a blessing to…………………____________________________________________________________. Job 2:9 ……..“curse God and die.” Job 42:5 “My ears have heard of you…but now my eyes have seen you.” Here is what we find in our suffering – there is ____________ that used to be filled with _________________. 2 Cor 1:3-5 - 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 5 For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. GOD WILL NOT ________________ _____________________ ___________________. GOD WILL NOT ________________ _____________________ ____________________. Matthew 5:4 (Message) – “You’re blessed when you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the one who is MOST dear to you.” We often pray for a change on the outside but God cares more about a change on the inside. We pray for our ___________________but God answers in ________________________________. SECOND we mourn __________________________________. ____________________________________________

is more addictive than _____________, which seeks to enslave us.

_____________________________________ we miss the richest blessings of God’s forgiveness and grace. The Great Augustine wrote this about sin more than 1600 years ago: “My sin was all the more incurable because I did not think of myself as a sinner.” Romans 7:15-25 15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good.17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. 21 So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! Isaiah 6:5 “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts”. Jesus said that “those who mourn” are “blessed” because _______________________________________ Luke 7:47 “whoever has been forgiven little, loves little……….but who has been forgiven much…..loves much……..” 2 Cor 7:10-11 Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. See what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done. Psalm 103:8-12 8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.9 He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever;10 he does not treat us as our sins deserveor repay us according to our iniquities.11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,so great is his love for those who fear him;12 as far as the east is from the west,so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Message (v9) He doesn’t endlessly nag and scold, nor hold grudges forever.
