Access the DREAM! Southeast Regional Transition Institute for Young Adults who are DeafBlind and their Families Tennessee School for the Deaf Campus Knoxville, TN June 21-24, 2018

Education – Self-Determination – Leadership – Advocacy Networking – Mentors – Action Planning for the Future Who Can Participate?

Any teen or young adult with dual sensory loss (deaf-blindness) ages 16 through 22 who is on a career path to work, technical school, or college is invited to participate. Participants must have both vision and hearing loss and a formal communication system.

What is the Purpose?

We aim to build self-determination skills in young adults with deaf-blindness by networking with other teens and adults who are deaf-blind; taking part in informational sessions, group discussions, and role play activities; and developing an action plan for future education and employment.

Tentative Activities

Canoeing, Nature Trail Exploration, Talent Show, Assistive Technology Demonstration, Resource Fair, Mock Meetings with Employers or Service Professionals, Cook-Out, Closing Celebration, Spending Time with Friends and Mentors.

Family Members

Special content just for parents/caregivers in preparation for their young adult's transition from school to work or college. In addition, there will be opportunities to talk with other family members of teens and adults who are deaf-blind.

2017 Transition Institute Keynote Presentation by George Stern, Member of Deafblind Citizens in Action (DBCA). George is pursuing a triple major in French, Journalism and Classics at Texas Tech University.

Thursday afternoon/evening: arrival Friday: activities all day and evening Saturday: activities all day and evening Sunday: early departure.
