Norwich Theatre Royal is East Anglia’s premier theatre, presenting a high quality mix of drama, musicals, opera, dance, comedy, music, children’s and family shows all year round. In an average year it sells some 400,000 tickets for around 410 performances of nearly 100 separate events, averaging 75% of capacity. With 1300 seats, the Theatre Royal is the largest venue in Norfolk, and plays a very active part in the cultural life of the region. The theatre is a registered charity (No. 262259) with education as its focus. Any surplus generated is dedicated to improving the theatre’s facilities and to supporting an extensive Learning & Participation programme. The post holder will join the Learning and Participation Team and support its work with adults and young people through the development of skills and training.

£16-18k per annum

Hours:

37.5 hours per week

Holiday Entitlement:

4 weeks p.a. plus statutory holidays rising to 5 weeks after five years

OBJECTIVE The Training and Skills Development Assistant provides support to the Training and Skills Development Manager to deliver programs and activities which include: regular creative arts courses for children, young people and adults; youth theatre and adult theatre companies; and training for practitioners and arts professionals.

Key Responsibilities Program and Activities • Facilitate creative participation programmes, including but not limited to Young Associates Programme; engaging learners in leadership of their own learning, acting as mentor or facilitator as and when appropriate. •

Assist with the delivery of practitioner and CPD training, accredited learning and the new learning opportunities.

Deliver acting classes and/or exam classes following the syllabus as directed. Direct Youth Theatre and Adult Theatre Company productions occasionally. Assist with the pastoral care of participants. Provide feedback to participants and their guardians where appropriate Provide an atmosphere that encourages commitment and learning from participants. Ensure that activities are delivered with and for participants with a focus on personal, social, artistic and cultural development. Select, in collaboration with participants and the Training and Skills Development Manager activities and themes for activities and performances, which reflect the Artistic Policy of the Learning and Participation Department.

Administration • Assist with the monitoring and evaluating of training and skills development activities • Contribute to the collation of team KPIs. • Assist in the distribution of information within classes, workshops and events. • Assist with the development of practical, written and digital learning resources. • Maintain accurate records of activities, to include session resources, registers, evaluations and feedback. • Photocopy, collate, bind and distribute resources and scripts as necessary. • Keep records and maintain paper and electronic filing systems • Process correspondence by email, post and telephone as directed General • Develop professional relationships with individuals, organisations and groups to support the delivery of educational activities at Norwich Theatre Royal. • Along with the rest of the learning and participation team, contribute to initiatives to remove barriers to accessing our work and to increase the diversity of participants and audiences.

Take an active role in your continuing professional development, identifying relevant training and professional development opportunities. Take responsibility for ensuring that community activities are delivered safely and in accordance with theatre company policies. Act at all times in the best interests of Norwich Theatre Royal

This list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and may change as the strategic vision for the department and organisation evolves. Therefore the post holder may be required to perform duties outside of this as operationally required, but within reasonable scope of this role at the request of the Training and Skills Development Manager.

PERSON SPECIFICATION Knowledge and Experience • Ability to deliver exciting and inspirational arts activities children, young people and adults. • Experience of creative learning and participation within a theatre company or arts /cultural organisation. • Knowledge of the learning and participation practice within British theatre sector. • Understanding the values of working with youth led arts facilitation programs. • Experience in the delivery of practical drama sessions and classes to children, young people and adults. • Experience of directing theatre productions and of theatre production processes. • Knowledge of technical theatre, including sound and lighting, and stage management. • •

Understanding of the differing needs of diverse groups of people, and the potential barriers to learning. Up-to-date child protection/safeguarding training.

Qualifications • Vocational or similar training in acting or allied theatre discipline, and a professional drama school or university. •
