WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS *HYMN OF INVOCATION Christ, Whose Glory Fills the Skies 1. Christ, whose glory fills the skies, Christ, the true and only light, Sun of righteousness, arise; Triumph o’er the shades of night. Dayspring from on high, be near; Day-star, in my heart appear.

LSB 873

2. Dark and cheerless is the morn Unaccompanied by Thee; Joyless is the day’s return Till Thy mercy’s beams I see, Till they inward light impart, Glad my eyes, and warm my heart. 3. Visit then this soul of mine, Pierce the gloom of sin and grief; Fill me, radiancy divine, Scatter all my unbelief; More and more Thyself display, Shining to the perfect day. *INVOCATION AND CALL TO WORSHIP L: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. L: “Return to me with all your heart,” says the Lord, C: “With fasting and with mourning. Rend your hearts and not your garments.” L: Return to the Lord, your God, C: For He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love. L: For our undue fascination with the fading glories of this temporal realm, C: Forgive us, O Lord, our God. L: Shine upon our hearts with the radiance of Your true glory, C: And grant us grace to reflect Your light before all who walk upon the pathway of darkness. L: Pardon our offenses, C: And blot out all our iniquities. L: Then shall our light break forth like the dawn, C: And Your healing shall spring up speedily. *THE ABSOLUTION C: Amen. *THE GLORIA PATRI (Taken from LSB, page 186) C: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. *THE KYRIE C: Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us.

*THE COLLECT OF THE DAY L: The Lord be with you. C: And with thy spirit. L: Let us pray. C: Amen. THE OLD TESTAMENT READING for the Transfiguration is from Deuteronomy 34:5-11, page 177: (5:00, 8:00, & 10:30) 5So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD, 6and he buried him in the valley in the land of Moab opposite Beth-peor; but no one knows the place of his burial to this day. 7Moses was 120 years old when he died. His eye was undimmed, and his vigor unabated. 8And the people of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days. Then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended. 9And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him. So the people of Israel obeyed him and did as the LORD had commanded Moses. 10And there has not arisen a prophet since in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face, 11none like him for all the signs and the wonders that the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to all his land.L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. THE EPISTLE is from Hebrews 3:1-6, page 1002: 1 Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, 2who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God’s house. 3For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses— as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. 4(For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.) 5Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, 6but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope. L: This is the Word of the Lord. *ALLELUIA AND VERSE C: Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia. *THE HOLY GOSPEL - The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the ninth chapter, verses 28-36, page 867: C: Glory be to Thee, O Lord. 28

Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray. 29And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white. 30And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah, 31who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they became fully awake they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. 33And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah"— not knowing what he said. 34As he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!" 36And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen.

L: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise be to Thee, O Christ. *THE NICENE CREED I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. HYMN OF THE DAY ‘Tis Good, Lord, to Be Here 1. ‘Tis good, Lord, to be here! Thy glory fills the night; Thy face and garments, like the sun, Shine with unborrowed light.

LSB 414

2. ‘Tis good, Lord, to be here, Thy beauty to behold Where Moses and Elijah stand, Thy messengers of old. 3. Fulfiller of the past, And hope of things to be, We hail Thy body glorified And our redemption see. 4. Before we taste of death, We see Thy kingdom come; We long to hold the vision bright And make this hill our home. 5. ‘Tis good, Lord, to be here! Yet we may not remain; But since Thou bidst us leave the mount, Come with us to the plain. THE SERMON

“See the Glory”

(Luke 9:29-31)
