TRANSFORMED The stories continue ... Southwood small group studies are something I hold very near and dear in my heart because I met my husband Cullen during the first small group I joined in as a member of Southwood. Sharing the small group study experiences together allows us to hold each other accountable and fuels deep conversations about our faith when we are alone. We have been a part of the same small group for a few years now, and while it sometimes takes our group a few weeks to “warm up” to each other after a lapse in time since the last small group study, this wasn’t the case with the Transformed study. We hit the ground running and as a result strengthened our friendships throughout the six weeks. The friendships I have gained give me the confidence to speak about my faith outside of the church environment because I want others to experience the support a Christian community provides. The women in our group have even started a group on Facebook in order to stay in touch throughout the week. Having this support system during the week has been very valuable for me because it reminds me to practice what I learn on Sunday—it also provides great laughs! I feel blessed to be part of a group that accepts me just the way I am, authentically cares for one another, and has a great time together. After completing the Transformed study, I understand how important it is to be healthy in all areas of our lives in order to be the best version of ourselves and have the energy to carryout God’s vision.

Caring 3 Tips for Everyday

Support those Grieving Over the Holidays

Often, friends and family members impacted by a significant loss are unsure how to navigate through the holidays. You may feel uncertain as to how to support those experiencing a loss as well. Remember there is no right or wrong way to handle the holidays—we are all different and have different ways of coping. ff Offer practical help—shovel the snow, put up outside lights, help put up decorations. ff Talk about the person who died, use their names in holiday conversations. Model to others you have not forgotten them and hold them close in your heart. ff Listen—actively listen, without trying to ‘make them feel better.’ Listen and allow them to share stories, memories, emotions and tears, over and over again.
