Job Summary: The Tribal Law and Policy Institute (TLPI – www.tlpi.org) is a Native American owned and operated non-profit organization that specializes in providing training, technical assistance, resource development and other services to enhance tribal justice systems across the nation. The Administrative Assistant is a full time, non-exempt position responsible for a range of administrative support duties for all offices of TLPI. Salary/ Benefits: Salary Range is $40,000 - $50,000 based on qualifications, experience and available funding. Excellent benefits package, including health, dental, vision and retirement. Duties and Responsibilities: Under the guidance and supervision of the Administrative Manager, the Administrative Assistant: • Takes lead responsibility in maintaining day-to-day office operations including: o answering phones/ checking phone messages daily o greeting visitors o providing information to public tactfully and concisely; referring complicated inquiries to appropriate staff o opening and sorting mail o preparing and sending out mail/packages o photocopying and scanning documents o maintaining and ordering office supplies and inventory o filing o overall office maintenance and management • Takes lead responsibility in assembling/duplicating/disseminating resource and training materials. • Assists Administrative Manager with administrative duties pertaining to all offices of TLPI, including but not limited to: o assisting with staff travel arrangements o posting documents on share point o general financial tasks o taking meeting minutes • Assists the Executive Director, Deputy Director and Program Specialists with special projects, as needed. • Assists Logistical Coordinator with scheduling tasks including: 1619 Dayton Ave., Suite 305 501 N. o scheduling conference calls o updating meeting dates and times on staff calendar o sending out email reminders prior to meetings Assists in coordinating national and regional meetings and/or conferences by assisting with the logistical planning, coordination and delivery including: o travel coordination o compilation of event/training materials and resources o logistical arrangement with the conference facility o room blocks o equipment arrangements, etc. o registration of participant/scholarship recipient prior to event/training o on-site registration o sponsorships o entertainment and activities o continuing education credits

Supervisory Responsibilities: No direct supervisory responsibilities. Qualifications: Education and/or Experience: Strongly preferred: Minimum of two (2) years of clerical and/or administrative experience. Preferred: Associate’s degree (A.A) or other applicable advanced degree; previous experience in tribal criminal justice systems; background in legal research and assistance. Organizational Skills: Required: Demonstrated ability to prioritize and effectively multi-task, to exercise initiative and be a self-starter. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to maintain focus in environments that can be stressful. Language / Writing Skills: Required: Ability to read and write interoffice memorandums, and basic administrative documents. Preferred: Familiarity with development of training materials. Reasoning Ability: Required: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situation where only limited standardization exists. Must have basic knowledge of federal Indian Law and Tribal law.

Other Skills and Abilities: Required: Proficient ability in a wide range of computer software programs such as Microsoft Office (word, publisher, powerpoint, excel), Outlook, Sharepoint, Adobe Acrobat, Quickbooks, Skype and others.
