When anyone offers a sacrifice of peace offerings to the LORD to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering from the herd or from the flock, to be accepted it must be perfect; there shall be no blemish in it. Leviticus 22: 21 Jesus Christ is Risen! Hallelujah!

God’sText Readings for May

I hope you still feel that after Easter glow, for Christ’s resurrection is for you and at work in you! GOD’sText, which I encourage you again to pick up and dive in to, is about to enter the realm of Leviticus. Ever had any interest in reading through the city of Sauk Rapids official ordinances for the last 50 years? That kind of reading might scare even the hardiest of readers! That’s the view many Christians have about this book of Leviticus. It’s full of ordinances, decrees, statutes, and commands that cover every aspect of Old Testament life. So, too often we ignore it or get bogged down in it—and miss that sweet message of salvation in it! Moses records valuable information that ties directly to salvation! City ordinances may not sound like fun reading, but they contain valuable information on the organization and smooth running of city life for those who live within its borders. As we dive into Leviticus, I hope we discover a new appreciation for God’s presence and mercy. Our holy God desires interaction with His people. He desires connection, where He will offer His grace and we might respond. And that’s what we are “all about” too: connection. Connecting with God at His Word, Connecting with one another as Church, and Connecting the Gospel to the community. Easter gives us the hope, the Spirit gives us the power, and the Word gives us the tools! Moses and the people gave sacrifices…at personal cost. Sin costs lives. God gave the greatest unblemished Lamb— His own Son—at great personal cost, to connect to you, to make you whole, and wholly His. Let’s get connected! Blessed Eastertide,

Pastor Hinz

"He Is in Prison" And the angel answered and said unto the woman, "Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for He is risen, as He said. Come, and see the place where the Lord lay." Matthew 28:5-6

Notes from Our Associate Pastor

Rev. Ken Klaus relates his experience with a children’s message one Easter Sunday: On a particular Resurrection Sunday, I spoke to the youngsters about the guards and the great stone and the sealed tomb guarding Jesus' grave. I told them about the women starting out in the darkness prepared to go to a funeral. Then, with the women approaching the tomb, I began to ask questions. "And do you know," I said, "what the angel said to the women who had come to say 'goodbye' to Jesus?" A number of hands went up; a number of young voices eagerly called out, "I know! Pastor, I know." (Between you and me all the hands should have been up and all the voices should have been calling out. Not more than two minutes before we had read the resurrection narrative to them.) Although I had never seen her before, I pointed to one girl who had been listening most attentively. She said, "The angels told the ladies, 'He is not here. He is in prison.'" Certain I must have heard her wrongly, I asked the young lady to repeat her answer. She did: "He is not here. He is in prison." The reiteration of her answer gave me the time to figure out she had misheard the Gospel reading, and her mind had substituted the word "prison" for "risen." It was an honest mistake, but it made her response completely wrong. Thankfully, the next few minutes managed to get things straightened out for her -- and for her parents, too. After their daughter's obvious mistake, they decided they had been remiss in their spiritual responsibilities for her, and they became faithful members of our congregation. That Sunday's children's message was a microcosm of our world this, and every, Resurrection Sunday. God's saved people are giving thanks that Jesus isn't in prison, and He isn't in an undiscovered grave. For us, Jesus' resurrection is visible, tangible proof that His work of saving us has been completed. Now, by His grace and the Holy Spirit's power, all who are brought to faith in the Christ are assured they, too, shall someday rise from the grave. Yes, today the Christian world does what it has done for almost 2,000 years. Once again our celebration tells a despondent and doubting world that the Light of Life is shining in the darkness. Our Resurrection Sunday greeting, "'He is risen," is the church's shout of victory, which proclaims the Savior's blood-bought triumph over the prison of death. THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, today there are many religions, doubters, and political leaders who would prefer You stayed in prison or in Your grave. Indeed, their denial of the resurrection reality is just giving voice to Satan's desire to push You back into that borrowed sepulcher. May we, empowered by the Holy Spirit, repeat to everyone the words of the angel: "He is not here. He is risen!" This I ask in Jesus' Name. Amen. “Faith Comes by Hearing Sunday” is May 19th The third weekend in May we remember, give thanks and support those who serve us in the Armed Forces. You can support our troops by giving a gift of $25.00 that will provide a Military BibleStick to one of our troops that requests one from their chaplain. In the month of May all contributions will be matched. The Military BibleStick is a portable, digital audio player, which comes pre-loaded with the Audio Drama New Testament and selected Psalms. This Audio Bible, which is about the size of a pack of chewing gum, easily fits into a uniform pocket.

“The Audio Bible is great. It enables me to listen to it at my convenience: on long drives, in my room, office, or the gym while working out.” – U.S. Army officer

Thanksgivings, Endowments and Memorials

“God’s Word brings my soldiers comfort, security and peace. Thank you for the Military BibleSticks.” – U.S. Army Chaplain

In Memory of Judy Heintze

What a tremendous opportunity to give a gift that will create and strengthen the faith of those who sacrifice so much for us. I am encouraging each family at Trinity to consider providing a Military BibleStick for one of our troops. On “Faith Comes by Hearing Sunday”, May 20th we will receive a “door offering” after both services to support this important outreach ministry. Checks can be payable to: Trinity Lutheran Church with “BibleStick” in the memo.) The Military BibleStick reaches service men and women deployed in some of the most dangerous areas of the world. God’s Word in audio can go with them and sustain them in even the most difficult circumstances. Each service member who receives a Military BibleStick also has the option to request a free Audio New Testament or Kids Bible for family back home. Military BibleSticks provide real hope for our heroes!

Worship and Music Notes Above all powers, above all kings, above all nature and all created things. Above all wisdom and all the ways of man, You were here before the world began. Above all kingdoms, above all thrones, above all wonders the world has ever known. Above all wealth and treasures of the earth, there's no way to measure what You're worth. Crucified, laid behind a stone. You lived to die, rejected and alone. Like a rose, trampled on the ground. You took the fall and thought of me . . . Above all. I remember when I first heard the song, "Above All". It was in October of 2001 and I was driving back to Omaha, NE after spending the weekend with friends. I had purchased Michael W. Smith's first Worship Live CD that weekend while out shopping. I had the CD playing and was hearing most of the worship songs on it for the first time. When I listened to the words of "Above All", I had tears streaming down my face and to this day, I cannot play and/ or sing this song without it having the same emotional affect on me. Whenever we sing "Above All" in church, my worship team singers tell me that they love singing it and that it always brings tears to their eyes. It's become one of my all time favorite worship songs. It was written by Paul Baloche and Lenny LeBlanc in 1999. Paul didn't start out to "write" a song when the words to "Above All" came to him. He was just spending time alone, worshipping the Lord. But as he meditated on Jesus, the words poured out. "Lord, you are above all kingdoms, above all thrones, above all the wonders the world has ever known." Paul struggled for over a year to write a chorus that fit the verses. But it wasn't until he sat down with friend Lenny LeBlanc that the song began to fully take shape. Lenny suggested, "Crucified, laid behind a stone. . . like a rose trampled on the ground. . ." and suddenly they realized that something wonderful was coming together. By the time they had written "You

took the fall and thought of me. . . above all," they were in tears. Hmmm … It seems to have that affect on a lot of people :) Ruth Immerfall

If you would like to contribute please have your donations to the school by May 16th. SCRIP—Prince of Peace SCRIP will be available on May 19th.

Our theme in 2019 is “Forgiven” and is based on Jesus’ words in Luke : “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Luke 23:34a. During 2019 we believe that God will touch the lives of many young people. He will strengthen their faith. He will give them guidance in their young lives. God will engage them in reflective learning about His creation, each of our sins, and the wonderful gift of forgiveness that He provides for us.

On Sunday, May 5th Louis Blocker will be visiting our congregation to share information, answer questions, and register our children for summer camp. Our congregation provides and the camp also provides some camperships so every child can go to camp at least once this summer. Our goal is to have many of our children ready to sign up for camp on May 5th. When we do that, we will be able to help each other with rides, encourage children to go to the same camps, and help the camp plan for the summer. So, pick up your brochure, get ready to sign up!

God’sText and Today’s Light Discussion Questions

If you are interested in more reflecting upon your God’sText readings, Concordia Publishing House offers free online Discussion Questions on the readings. Here is the link for you: https:// books.cph.org/todays-light/discussion-questions A number of years of questions are available and it takes a little searching. The materials are based upon a two-year reading plan which begins in January of even-numbered years. Because TLC did not begin in January, it is necessary to adjust for the dates by looking at the readings to match our schedule at TLC. To find questions for our current reading schedule, click on “January-March 2018” (first year of a twoyear cycle). It begins with Genesis 1, so page through to the headings for our current Exodus/ Leviticus readings. These discussion questions can be used for personal study or in small groups. If you are interested in participating in a small group discussion, let us know in the church office. Any other questions, please let me know. Blessings on your reading and reflection on God's Word. -- Pastor Beck TRINITY

Joy’s presentation will help us learn to witness to the ever-growing Muslim population in Central Minnesota. You are welcome to come just for the speaker. Reservations need to be made for lunch. You may make your reservation with Judy in the office or Connie Mooney, LWML president. The cost of registration and lunch is $7.00. We will also have our monthly meeting on Thursday, May 9th at 1:00pm. Pastor Beck will lead our study. Please join us!
