TRUE BIBLE THANKSGIVING Leviticus 7:12 Leviticus 7:29 The first mention of thanksgiving in the bible is found in verse 12 and is significant in that the verse begins with the word “if”. The Lord later in this particular verse further quantifies the thanksgiving offering as being “a sacrifice” and also must be given or offered “at your own free will.” Romans 15:4; I Corinthians 10:11 We are reminded by Paul that although we are not bound by “the Law” of the O. T. we are indeed bound to take the lessons and examples God used on Israel to learn how best to live a life that is pleasing to God and how to be a good example to those around us. Leviticus 7:12, 29 In the O. T. Law there were two types of sacrificial offerings to the Lord. In our worship toward God there must be sacrifice. The two types of sacrificial offerings were their tithes and offerings, and the second offering was that of a thanksgiving offering. The tithes and offering sacrificial offering was obligatory for all, the thanksgiving offering was completely voluntary, not demanded by the Law or by God. It was given out of gratitude toward God for His blessings and His provision. II Corinthians 9:6-8 The N. T. offers a sister verse to the Thanksgiving sacrificial offering of the O. T.. Paul expresses that this offering is given out of the goodness of our heart, joyfully, not grudgingly, knowing that God's grace has been showered down abundantly on us as God meets our daily needs. Give Thanks In Our Worship Psalm 92:1-6; 122:1 David was a very spiritual man and the bible testifies that 'he was a man after God's own heart.” David had many great achievements in life for the Lord and also many great failures. David knew the value of being thankful and knew how to express it in his worship. Hebrews 10:24-25 The best thing we can do to show our gratitude and thankfulness to God is to gather together every time the doors open and sing praises to our Lord and listen to bible teaching and preaching in order to grow in our understanding and love for our Savior. David sang praises, used instruments, learned more of God's greatness and being in God's house made him glad! Give Thanks In Our Service Psalm 107:1-2 David was the best example in the O. T. as always willing and happy to talk about the greatness of God. He wanted everyone to know that he had a special relationship with God. I Corinthians 9:22 Most believers think it is hard and difficult to witness for the Lord, yet the most effective way to witness for Jesus is just tell whoever your talking to just what Jesus has done for you. Romans 1:16 As soon as you start talking about the gospel of Christ the Holy Spirit will give you the words and thoughts to give to the person your talking to. Don't ever be ashamed of the gospel of Christ. I Corinthians 12:4-7 One of the best ways a believer can give heart felt gratitude to God is to exercise our God given spiritual gift in the church house and be one that edifies and builds up others. Galatians 6:9-10 The Lord expects the world to fight and persecute believers in any possible way they can. If a believer needs help the world system laughs! That's why Jesus expects us to help one another when another believer is in need. James 1:27; 2:14-17 James helps us understand how we can show thankfulness toward God in that we can all be concerned for the believers that are in special need such as widows, fatherless children and believers that are down on their luck. By helping others we show thankfulness for our blessings. Give Thanks In Our Giving Proverbs 3:9-10; I Corinthians 16:1-2 Everyone doesn't receive the same financial blessings but we all receive something. This type of offering is a thanksgiving offering and how we say thank you Lord.
