TWO NEW YOUTH OFFICES FOR REGIONAL VICTORIA Young people in regional Victoria will benefit from the opening of two new offices designed to connect them with education and community services, Minister for Youth Affairs, Jenny Mikakos, announced today. Ms Mikakos said the Victorian Budget 2015-16 provided $962,000 over two years to the Youth Affairs Council of Victoria to establish the two new regional offices. The two offices will provide support to young people – especially those experiencing disadvantage – in regional Victoria. This investment will link young people in rural and regional areas to community, education and employment pathways. The location of the two offices will be determined in association with YACVic, and will go to areas of identified need. Ms Mikakos said the offices will open later this year and complement existing offices run by the Centre for Multicultural Youth in Morwell and Ballarat. The priority will be assisting young people to feel connected and supported by their communities. The Rural and Regional Local Government Youth Engagement Program also provides opportunities for rural and regional young people. The Andrews Labor Government’s Budget refunded this program, providing $210,000 in 2015-16. Quotes attributable to Minister for Youth Affairs, Jenny Mikakos “We’re making sure these youth services are here to stay. They give important support to young people growing up in rural and regional Victoria.” “Youth organisations like YACVic help young people connect with their communities as well as education and employment opportunities.” “I will be working closely with YACVic to determine the best regional locations for their two new offices.”
