FOR LOCAL POINT COOK RESIDENT LAUREN AND HER TWO-YEAR OLD SON ASHER, MOVING INTO THEIR BRAND NEW HOME AT POINT COOK’S NEW PARKLAND COMMUNITY ADRESSE CAN’T COME QUICKLY ENOUGH.

Having lived in the local area for more than six years, Lauren felt ready to ‘move up’ from her existing home and find a community environment that would suit her family’s growing lifestyle needs. “Having bought our first house six years ago I felt the time was right to move into a more desirable part of Point Cook and create our ‘forever’ home,” Lauren said. “I was first attracted to Adresse due to its beautiful parkland, which will be perfect for summer picnics and walks with Asher. “I also loved the location of Adresse as it’s so close to a shopping precinct and Saltwater Reserve. I’m sure as Asher gets older he will want to play sport so having that amenity right on our doorstep will be a huge bonus. “In terms of Point Cook itself we absolutely love it here – there’s a real sense of community and everyone is so friendly. This sense of community is so important for young children so I’m glad I can raise my son in such a supportive environment. “When we move in I’ll be excited to have some of my favourite restaurants located just down the road for those times when I want to head out with friends. I particularly love D’Olive restaurant and Rendezvous Café which are just around the corner from Adresse! “We are so excited to start designing our dream home and can’t wait to experience all that Adresse has to offer when we move in next year.”

OUT AND ABOUT FROM BUSTLING CAFÉS AND BUSY SHOPPING PRECINCTS, TO EXCELLENT SCHOOLS AND A STRONG COMMUNITY NETWORK, THE CITY OF WYNDHAM HAS MUCH TO OFFER.

THE LOCAL HEADS OUT AND ABOUT TO CAPTURE SOME OF THE BEST WEEKEND MOMENTS.

However, when asked about what local produce Wyndham is known best for, there aren’t many locals who would say ‘winemaking’. It’s a common misconception and one that local winemaker at Werribee’s Shadowfax Wines winery, Matt Harrop, is hoping to change.

Nestled in the picturesque Werribee Park region surrounded by the Mansion Hotel and Spa to one side and the Werribee Open Range Zoo on the other, Shadowfax Wines boasts some of the most exquisite scenery in the region. Its rustic restaurant and cellar door – designed by the award-winning Wood Marsh architects – are also major draw cards. Since joining the family-owned business in 2000, Matt has played a major role in producing over ten thousand cases of wine each year, and says offering customers the combination of a relaxed atmosphere yet professional service is all part of the experience.

“Shadowfax is such a unique winery with so much to offer; we love that our guests can enjoy the beautiful surroundings while enjoying an Italian-inspired meal in the restaurant, paired with one of our exquisite wines,” Matt said.

“Our head chef, Ben D’Arcy is renowned for his wood fired pizzas and his love of fresh produce, so his menu draws inspiration from good quality ingredients that are locally sourced, to create honest dishes that people just love. “We grow our own vegetables and herbs so many of the dishes we serve include ingredients from our very own kitchen garden. “Every Saturday the winery comes alive with band music, so people can sit on the grass and enjoy the atmosphere with friends and family. Our guests bring along a picnic basket, maybe buy a bottle of wine to share and really make an afternoon of it. “Since opening our doors 14 years ago, our focus has been on delivering beautiful, high-end experiences that allow our wines to come alive.” So while Shadowfax Wines may have been Werribee’s best kept secret for over a decade, keep this awardwinning winery on your radar this summer and experience the beauty of this hidden gem for yourself.

THERE’S A CERTAIN FEELING THAT COMES WITH WATCHING A LOCAL FOOTY MATCH ON THE WEEKEND, WHETHER IT BE TUCKING INTO A HOT JAM DONUT OR YELLING FROM THE BOUNDARY LINE, BUT FOR THE LOCALS OF SALTWATER RESERVE, IT’S A FEELING OF GRATITUDE.

ICONIC M A N S I O N WERRIBEE’S ICONIC MANSION COMES TO LIFE

A few years ago, the local football club lacked a permanent base to get their boots dirty, but with the delivery of the $23 million Saltwater Reserve in 2012, the Point Cook Football Club is now kicking goals. Comprising three ovals, eight tennis courts, a tennis pavilion, three soccer pitches and a basketball half court, Saltwater Reserve boasts a host of sporting activities for locals to enjoy. Since settling into its new home at Saltwater Reserve, the Point Cook Football Club has grown to encompass 17 teams, including 14 junior teams, one female team and two senior sides. The local girls aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty either, with the 25-girl team in the Western Region Footy League now at capacity. Junior Vice president of the Point Cook Football Club, Mark King, says the 350-member club is exceptionally proud of its culture. “The community is fair, we’re a respectful team and we play hard to be competitive, but at the end of the day, we’re a fair club,” Mark said. Not only is the club’s main oval the same size as the MCG, its members have been lucky enough to meet their fair share of footy legends, and they even have hopes of producing one of their own in the not too distant future. “Robert Murphy from the Western Bulldogs recently visited the club and Adam Cooney has paid a visit a couple of times,” Mark said. “Our very own Jordan Robinson has come up from the under 16’s and is now in the under 16’s TAC Vic state side.” When the footy isn’t on, locals can also enjoy the Saltwater Reserve playground and barbeque areas, as well as an off-lead dog area. “The facilities at Saltwater Reserve are first class and there’s parking readily available. It’s also free, which is just another bonus of the reserve,” Mark said.

SURROUNDED BY 10 ACRES OF EXPANSIVE GROUNDS AND MANICURED GARDENS THAT TRANSPORT GUESTS TO ANOTHER MOMENT IN TIME, THE LUXURY MANSION HOTEL AND SPA IN WERRIBEE IS ONE OF THE REGION’S MOST ICONIC VENUES, ATTRACTING

The birds are chirping, flowers are blooming and the smell of spring is fresh in the air... After the chill of Melbourne’s winter has lifted, there’s no better time to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and make the most of the great outdoors by enjoying some healthy lifestyle activities. Fortunately, Point Cook has a whole host of parks, gardens and outdoor facilities that make getting back to nature a breeze – and among the most beautiful is the Point Cook Coastal Park. Nestled alongside the Point Cooke Marine Sanctuary, Point Cook Coastal Park features abundant birdlife, a historic bluestone homestead and intertidal sandbanks, making it popular with birdwatchers, nature lovers and families seeking a fun activity to enjoy together. Someone who appreciates the beauty of the great outdoors is Rocky Barca, a local resident who has worked for Parks Victoria for over 30 years. During this time, Rocky has had the pleasure of maintaining a number of parks around Victoria, including the iconic Werribee Park and Point Cook Coastal Park.

WHAT SORT OF FLOWERS CAN YOU EXPECT TO SEE ON A VISIT TO ONE OF THE LOCAL PARKS AT THIS TIME OF YEAR? Springtime means all of the local coastal wattles are just coming into flower, and you will also notice a lot of native plants and orchards starting to bloom. WHAT OTHER PARKS AND GARDENS IN POINT COOK SHOULD PEOPLE VISIT? Laverton North Grasslands in Point Cook is a great place to get active and enjoy some fresh air amongst the tranquil surroundings. WHY DO YOU THINK IT’S SO IMPORTANT FOR PEOPLE TO GET OUTDOORS? It’s nice to take some time out of our busy lives to enjoy what the outdoors has to offer…happy parks, happy hearts. ARE THE PARKS IN POINT COOK MOSTLY DOG FRIENDLY? Dogs are a part of the family! So yes, most parks around Point Cook are dog friendly.

THOUSANDS OF LOCAL GUESTS AND INTERNATIONAL VISITORS EACH YEAR. Established in 1870, the Italianate Mansion was built by two of Wyndham’s founding members, Thomas and Andrew Chirnside, and has seen many incarnations including a private residence, Catholic Seminary, Corpus Christi school, and now as a stunning luxury hotel and wedding destination. A venue as diverse as its long history suggests, today the mansion hosts its fair share of luxury weekend getaways, corporate functions and lavish celebrations. Every year, throngs of revelers descend to the grounds for major public events including the Werribee Polo, So Frenchy So Chic Festival, and New Years’ Day celebrations. The man responsible for the Mansion’s modern coming of age, Lancemore Group Chief Executive Officer Julian Clark, said protecting the hotel’s heritage while making it accessible to the broader community has been an instrumental strategy for the group since it took over operations in 2010. “The Werribee Mansion is almost 150 years old, however unfortunately much of its life was spent idle

and in disrepair. It wasn’t until Parks Victoria stepped in some 18 years ago that its fortunes began to change,” Julian said. “The Lancemore Group officially took over the operating reins about four years ago and since then we’ve focused on transforming the venue into a world-class luxury destination. “Now home to an award-winning day spa, extravagant indoor pool, beautiful restaurant and those famous grounds, we are proud to offer our guests and visitors an experience they will remember for a lifetime. “The Werribee Mansion and Spa is now rated amongst the top ten hotels in the country, so it’s been a fascinating journey for the beautiful building and one that has many more chapters still to come.” WERRIBEE MANSION HOTEL AND SPA K ROAD, WERRIBEE www.lancemoregroup.com.au/mansion-hotel-and-spa
