UNDERSTANDING SEASONS THROUGH ART (K) LESSON DESCRIPTION: This lesson connects science and art by using art to teach about the four seasons. Students will have the opportunity to see how artists portray the seasons in their artwork, and then they will create artwork to illustrate how seasons affect the trees. NATIONAL K-4 VISUAL ARTS STANDARDS: 1. Content Standard: Understanding and applying media, techniques, and processes Achievement Standard: Students: c. use different media, techniques, and processes to communicate ideas, experiences, and stories d. use art materials and tools in a safe and responsible manner SC SCIENCE STANDARDS: Standard K-4:

The student will demonstrate an understanding of seasonal weather changes. (Earth Science) K-4.3 Summarize ways that the seasons affect plants and animals.

SC VISUAL ARTS STANDARDS: Standard 1: The student will demonstrate competence in the use of ideas, materials, techniques, and processes in the creation of works of visual art. VAK-1.1 Use his or her own ideas in the creation of works of visual art.
