Curtin College is hosted on the Curtin University (CU) campus in Bentley, Perth, and provides Diploma, Postgraduate Preparation Program (PPP) and Graduate Certificate in Business Administration programs for students progressing to a CU degree. Our programs cater for a wide range of students, with half of the student cohort being international students. About the role The Postgraduate Preparation Program is a non-award four unit program which prepares students to articulate into the Graduate Certificate in Business Administration. Academic Teachers are responsible for delivering high quality education programs to a diverse cohort of students. Responsibilities include teaching in area of expertise, participation in professional development, development of teaching materials and actively engaging with learners to ensure learning needs are met. In addition to teaching, Unit Coordinators ensure the quality and consistency of the unit in terms of its content, delivery and assessments, evaluation and to contribute towards continuous improvement of the unit. The Postgraduate Preparation program comprises of four AQF Level 7 units, as follows: Academic Communication for Postgraduate Studies; Intercultural Communications for Postgraduate Studies; Research Skills for Postgraduate Studies; and Postgraduate Preparation in Critical Thinking. Essential Skills and Experience  Tertiary qualifications, preferably at a Masters level in the relevant discipline area.  Teaching staff for the communications units require a CELTA, TESOL or equivalent qualification.  Two years teaching experience at postgraduate level or equivalent AQF Level 7, within a tertiary educational environment.  Demonstrated knowledge and experience of innovative approaches to learning and teaching.  Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and participate equitably on collaborative work tasks.  Demonstrated computer literacy skills relevant to the role, including proficiency with the MS Office suite. Desirable Skills and Experience  Experience working in a multicultural education environment.  Knowledge of undergraduate and postgraduate programs at a tertiary level.  Awareness of Aware of the Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2015, the Education Services of Overseas Students Act 2000 (ESOS Act) and the National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2017.

Position Description Title:

1. Overview and Objectives of the Position: Academic Teachers are responsible for delivering high quality education programs to a diverse cohort of students. Responsibilities include teaching in area of expertise, participation in professional development, development of teaching materials and actively engaging with learners to ensure learning needs are met.

2. Key Result Areas:   

   

Undertake teaching for nominated unit/s within relevant program/s. Oversee the development of learning and teaching materials within relevant units. Liaise with the administration staff regarding student assessment processes and outcomes for nominated programs including, but not limited to, internal and external moderation activities, assessment committees, appeal of results, students at-risk, student program progression, record keeping of all assessment items implemented within each program, and academic misconduct. Provide advice and assistance to students on academic matters relating to their unit, policies and procedures, and refer students to relevant support or administrative staff as necessary. Preparation of relevant unit performance reports for consideration by academic committees. Ensure quality assurance for programs. Contribute to and participate in professional development programs (Learning & Teaching and discipline specific).

Decision Making / Authority to Act  The Academic Teacher provides decision-making in the day-to-day management in the delivery of units.  Academic Teachers receive advice and recommendations on the management and delivery of the units from the Academic/Program Coordinator, as required. If nominated as Unit Coordinator: - Supervise nominated unit including taking responsibility for unit delivery and communicating with teaching staff in liaison with the Academic/Program Coordinator. - Liaise with teaching staff within relevant units regarding student progress and specific matters as relates to students. - Liaise with the relevant staff with respect to matters of curriculum oversight, including unit changes, unit outlines, assessment and quality control of specified units and ensure comparability of learning outcomes, curriculum and assessment practices with relevant Curtin College programs.

Roles and Responsibilities The role and responsibilities of the Academic Teacher includes delivering lectures and tutorials as allocated by the Academic/Program Coordinator, and may include the following:  Provision of student consultation time.  Ensure time for lecture & tutorial preparation.  Preparation & digital distribution of Unit Outline appropriately prepared and modified to reflect the template for the relevant program prior to Orientation week of each study period.  Preparation and digital upload (to Moodle) of Learning and Teaching materials such as unit notes, handouts, and other relevant materials, setting of and scheduling of assessments including assignments, tests, projects, oral presentations, and laboratory exercises etc.  Marking of all assessments including tests, assignments, projects etc. Feedback to students regarding assessments within an appropriate timeframe (within 2 weeks of due date).  Maintenance of attendance and academic records.  Reporting on student progress and attendance.  Reporting on student conduct as it relates to academic integrity.  Liaise with the College staff as required.  Provide marked assessments for moderation, internal and/or external referencing of standards (benchmarking and/or peer review), as required.  Adhere to the Curtin College policies and procedures.  Participation in the College observation and peer learning process. There is also a regular evaluation program in place for student feedback.  Ensure/Agree not to engage in any employment or activity which may adversely affect the standard of teaching delivered under this contract.  Maintain scholarship in their discipline and higher education learning & teaching. 3. Qualifications and Selection Criteria Essential:  Tertiary qualifications at the Bachelors level or higher in a relevant discipline area.  CELTA qualification or equivalent.  Two years teaching experience at College level or equivalent within a higher educational environment.  Demonstrated knowledge and experience of innovative approaches to learning and teaching.  Experience working in a multicultural environment.  Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and participate equitably on collaborative tasks.  Well-developed oral and written communication skills.  Demonstrated computer literacy skills relevant to the role, including proficiency with the Ms Office Suite. Desirable:  Knowledge of undergraduate and postgraduate programs at a tertiary level.  Aware of ESOS Act and National Code
