Summit is a weekend of learning, fellowship and fun for Venturing crews, Sea Scout ships, youth and adults in your council with Venturing program responsibilities. The purpose of the weekend is to share knowledge and ideas to help keep your crew’s program vibrant and sustainable and to help enhance your council’s venturing efforts through interaction with your peers from around the Area in formal training sessions and informal settings.

SPECIFICS HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? The fee for the weekend is $40/person for tenting. Sorry, there are no cabins available this year. Cost includes cracker barrels on Friday and Saturday, breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday, It also includes a participation patch.

HOW DO I REGISTER? This year’s registration will be mail in or fax to Mohegan Council BSA. Adults may register as individuals. Youth (under 21) attending must register as part of a participating Venturing Crew or Sea Scout Ship. Crews are responsible for providing appropriate adult advisers. MEDICAL FORMS & TOUR PLANS All participants MUST bring a completed Annual Health and Medical Record. WHAT SHOULD I BRING? Crews will need to provide their own tents. Your crew’s uniform will be appropriate for most activities. Plan on appropriate clothing for the weather and for other activities, expect anything—it’s New England, after all!

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES This year’s Summit will feature training opportunities for Crew/Ship officers, members, and adults involved in the Venturing program at all levels. We will be conducting a course director seminar for Kodiak/Kodiak X to facilitate councils offering more Kodiak training opportunities throughout the Northeast Region. Councils or Crews planning to conduct a Kodiak course in the near future should plan on sending a representative to this training. Training sessions for youth and adults will explore a variety of topics including; cooking, Rules of Ultimate Frisbee, Search and Rescue, Leave No Trace, Planning an Event, Rank advancement in Venturing, and shooting sports safety. The NEW ILSC will be offered at this year’s summit. If you or any of your crew members plan on attending this training please indicate how many on the registration form. This training will be all day Saturday. -“The purpose of the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews course is to teach crew members with leadership positions about their new roles, and how to most effectively reach success in that role. It is intended to help Venturers in leadership positions within their crew understand their responsibilities and to equip them with organizational and leadership skills to fulfill those responsibilities””.

FUN & GAMES AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES: In addition to the training opportunities, a number of activities are planned to add fun and excitement to the weekend. These include COPE, rifle shooting, pistol shooting, archery, Ultimate Frisbee, mountain boarding, zumba, challenge course and many more!

Spirit Award: Award to the crew with the most spirit throughout the weekend! COOKING COMPETITION: A cooking competition will also take place Saturday afternoon, the crew or ship that makes the best dessert will win a prize. We will not be providing the materials or supplies for this competition so make sure you are prepared for the event with all necessary items. CANOEING COMPETITION: On Saturday afternoon during the afternoon activities a canoe racing competition will take place. In order to participate in the competition or any other water sports activity please have completed the BSA swim test before coming to Summit. Your Advisor/ Skipper can sign off that they have witnessed you complete the test. Other water activities being offered include kayaking and canoeing. POSTER COMPETITION: Every crew/ship is encouraged to bring a poster showing off the activities that their crew/ship have participated in. There will be a contest judging which crew/ship designed the best poster showing off their crew/ ship activities. The winning crew/ ship of the competition will receive a prize.

From the Mass Turn Pike (Interstate 90)/Interstate 84 Take exit at Sturbridge Route 20 and proceed east. At approx. 1 ½ miles turn left onto route 49 towards Spencer and follow to Route 9. Turn Right onto Route 9(east) and go approx. ½ mile to the traffic light and turn left onto Meadow Street. Follow Meadow Street approx. 2 miles to stop sign and turn left onto route 31. Continue on Route 31 past St. Joseph’s Abbey and the Black and White Restaurant. About ½ mile past the Black and White restaurant Turn left onto Barclay Road. Scout Reservation is one mile down on the left. From Interstate 290 (from Marlboro) Take Exit 18 (Lincoln Street) And Follow signs to Lincoln Square (Route 9). Turn right on Route 9 (heading towards Worcester Airport). Follow Directions from Route 9 below. From Interstate 290 (from Auburn) Take Exit 17 and turn left onto Route 9. Follow Directions from route 9 below. From Route 9/290 in Worcester Stay straight on Route 9-picking up Pleasant Street(north)/Route 122 Toward Worcester Airport and Paxton. Follow Route 122 past the airport, Through Tatnuck Square and Paxton Center into Rutland. After ½ mile past the Detour Deli, turn left at the next intersection onto Pleasantdale Road. Follow Pleasantdale Road for approx. 2 ½ -3 miles. Treasure Valley Scout Reservation entrance is on the right side.
