SONG LYRICS Advent Week 1: The Prophecy Candle

Oh Come All Ye Faithful O come, all ye faithful Joyful and triumphant O come ye, o come ye to Bethlehem Come and behold Him Born the King of Angels! Oh come, let us adore Him Oh come, let us adore Him Oh come, let us adore Him Christ the Lord!

Leader:

Isaiah 9:6 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shined. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given.

Leader: All:

Why do we light the Advent candles? Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the Light of Life.” What is the first Advent candle? The Prophecy Candle. Christmas is when God’s prophecies came true in the birth of Jesus.

Leader: All:

Sing, choirs of angels Sing in exultation Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above! Glory to God Glory in the highest Oh come, let us adore Him Oh come, let us adore Him Oh come, let us adore Him Christ the Lord! Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, Born this happy morning Jesus, to Thee be glory given Word of he Father Now in flesh appearing Oh come, let us adore Him Oh come, let us adore Him Oh come, let us adore Him Christ the Lord!

Oh Come, Oh Come, Emmanuel Oh come, Oh come, Emmanuel, And ransom captive Israel, That mourns in lonely exile here, Until the Son of God appear. Rejoice! Rejoice! Jesus is our salvation! He saves those who confess their sins! Jesus, we confess that often we are not what You created us to be. Sometimes all we have to offer You is that we didn’t want to do what we did. From our darkness, we look for the light of Your promises. You are the way God’s promises come true. You came to save us from our sins, and to accept us as we are! In lighting this candle, we receive the good news of Christmas.

What We Want NEED for Christmas

November 29, 2020

We Need a Promise Romans 7:18-19 But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart from the law, sin lies dead. 9 I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died. 10 The very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me. 11 For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me. 12 The law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good. 8

13 Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure.

For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin. 15 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. 16 Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. 14

So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. 18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. 17

Matthew 1:18-25 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 23 "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel" (which means, God with us). 21
