Virtual Issue Celebrating the Life and Career of Millie Dresselhaus The Queen of Carbon Science

T

so much of her energy, imagination, and intellect to the scientific community.

o celebrate and honor Mildred Dresselhaus’ incredibly productive research career in the area of nanoscience and materials, nine ACS journals have compiled this virtual issue of 31 of her publications and as well as other articles about and with her. While representing a tiny fraction of her contributions

to scientific knowledge, these publications capture the enormous breadth of her interests in materials, which range from understanding complex physical phenomena, such as her fundamental work on thermoelectrics, to techniques that enabled others to better understand their materials, such as Raman characterization of carbon nanostructures, to new syntheses of nanomaterials. Several editorials have recently been written about Millie’s remarkable career, and here we let her research contributions speak for themselves.1−3 We hope that you will spend a few quiet moments reflecting upon this virtual issue, and remember this extraordinarily modest and iconic scientist who dedicated her life to her passion and gave © 2017 American Chemical Society
