Annual Meeting February 25th

The Vista Oaks Annual Meeting is scheduled for February 25th, 6:30pm at the Westside Church of Christ. This meeting will consist of an overview of VOOA’s financials for the past year, plans for 2010 and board member election. The Annual Meeting notice and Proxies should be in your mailbox soon! If you are unable to attend the meeting we ask that you assign your proxy to a neighbor or board member for quorum purposes and return it to Southwest Management Services. Your participation is beneficial to your community. There are four board member terms expiring this year. Are you interested in helping your community? Do you have what it takes? If you’re considering running for the board, we ask that you take a few moments to ask yourself the following three questions: Do I have the time? As a board member, you will need to devote at least several hours of your time each month to association business. In addition to regular monthly board meetings, you will need to be active in email discussions and occasional special meetings. During special projects, you may need to spend a little extra time on association business. Some board members may also spend a little more time than others if they work with a committee Can I make tough decisions when it’s required? The primary role of the board is to conduct the business of the association. This doesn’t just mean approving the budget, but also developing and enforcing policies. Board members are required to step outside their immediate circle of family and neighbors and make decisions based on the greater good of the community. Can I do all this and have fun, too? It isn’t all about policies and tough decisions. Our community is only as good as we make it, and establishing and maintaining a sense of community is a part of a board member’s responsibility. Planning and attending functions such as our holiday bonfire and being a presence in the community are as important as any policy decisions you may make. Being a board member can be one of the most rewarding ways you’ll find to volunteer your time. If you’re interested in running for the board or would like more details about board responsibilities, please send an e-mail to [email protected] or contact a current board member.

The 2009 Holiday party

Was A Success!

I must say that Angela and I jumped with joy at the opportunity to have the annual bonfire after three years of burn ban! Yippee! It felt more like our past celebrations. It was a drizzly day but cleared up so that we could walk around without sloshing in the mud! Williamson County Mud #9 donated $500 to our party and our train was sponsored by KellerWilliams realtors Megan Companion and Tracie Johnson. Thanks to both of them!! Somehow, Santa caught a ride to the party with the Sam Bass Fire Department. He said the reindeers were resting up for Christmas! Thanks to our hero firemen for bringing him safely and then making sure that our bonfire was safe! The band started at 6:00 and everyone enjoyed the tamales, chili, and mac n cheese. I know the dessert table was a popular attraction too! The kiddos were busy as ever with the inflatable obstacle course, the jingle train, and smores! The night was festive and fun and it is wonderful to live in a neighborhood where the association plans an entertainment budget so that we can have these parties and make the most of our community! Besides Angela and me, we had two volunteers come out to set up for the party. That was Doug Czap and Brian Hall. They did the stake hammering, heavy lifting and electrical tweaking. They were lifesavers and right up there with firefighters in our book! Thanks to Brian for driving to South Austin to pick up the tamales. A big THANK YOU goes to Suanne Czap, Kathy Henson, Amy Franks, Stacy Forman, Stephanie Key and Kim Daugherty for making pots of chili for everyone to enjoy. Angela and I each made a pot as we were not sure there would be quite enough. Thank you to Kim Daugherty (again), Bridget Rodgers, Melanie Mansfield, Veronica Haig, Patricia Mechler, Barbara McGary and Debra Quay for making Macaroni and cheese! Thank you to Teresa Orkun, Leslie Alger, Kathy Olds, Patricia Mechler and Angela for making the hot cocoa for everyone to enjoy! If I forgot to mention anybody, I’m sorry it’s because I was going by the sign up sheet and not memory!!! Thank you to our servers, popcorn and train volunteers: Jack and Lara Green, Stephanie and Karroll Key, Dave and Amy Miller, Teresa and Tolunay Orkun, Susan Sawisch, April Christiansen, Kathy Henson, Brian Naab, Traci Mitchell, Victoria and Jaylen Harris, Brandon and Kathy Olds, Melanie Wells, Suzanne Mechler, Jazlin Cisneros, Gina and Connor Doolittle, Kiet and Van Chau and Kim and Steve LaValley! Our train volunteers were Robyn and Andy Martinez, Russ and Lisa Young, Courtney and Chad Welch, Chad Worley and Kris Kringle Williams!!!! Thanks again to all of you! The clean up crew on Sunday consisted of: Stephanie and Taylor Key, Aliya Beechum and Angela, Alexia and Jessica Rowling and Jessica’s Boy Scout Troop as well as Jack Green. Thank to all of you! Vista Oaks The 2009 Holiday Party - (Continued from Page 3) This party is a big undertaking that takes a lot of planning long before you get your e-mails from Teresa Orkun to sign up as a volunteer. Angela Beechum (for the most part) and I have been working for weeks to organize and hire the different forms of entertainment, plan the food and fine tune all of the details. After a few years, it has become easier to put together because the foundation of what we are doing is in place. The most important aspect of this party is that we have volunteers from our community of 900 homes come out and help to make chili or macaroni and cheese, decorate, serve food or popcorn, supervise kids on the train and obstacle course and clean up. We need more participation. If you are not receiving the e-mails about parties, please contact Teresa Orkun at 733-8098 or if you would like to volunteer to be on the social committee, please contact Angela Beechum at 2445446 or Kelly Hall at 248-1466. We would love to have fresh ideas and energy to keep these parties entertaining for all! See you at the Easter Egg Hunt!!! Kelly Hall

Vista Oaks

Why Scoop the Poop?

It has been brought to the Board’s attention that several areas of the neighborhood are not kept clean by pet owners after they walk their dogs. If we don’t keep our neighborhood clean who will? Besides being a nuisance, uncollected dog waste is a serious problem for our association. Next time you’re tempted to leave your dog’s droppings on the lawn, please remember these facts: 1. The appearance and quality of the common areas are known to affect home sales—not just whether and for how much they sell, but how quickly. 2.The more residents complain about dog waste, the more time the manager must spend on enforcement rather than serving the association. 3. Uncollected dog waste spreads disease and attracts rodents who feed on pet waste. Pet Owners, please carry a doggie bag and pick up after your pet. The quality of our neighborhood is determined by how we all take care of it.

Sounds Like a Good Idea Noise is a concern for every resident and because you live in a community, it’s important to understand that some degree of noise is to be expected. At the same time, residents need to consider the consequences of their noisy behavior. To keep everyone happy and maintain civility among neighbors, the association asks that you take a few steps to reduce or eliminate annoying noise. • Be kind and respectful. A little common courtesy makes a big difference. Keep your music at reasonable levels. When hosting a gathering that may cause disruption to your neighbors consider contacting your neighbors in advance. Let them know the date and time of your event and what time you plan on turning down the noise level. • Keep a log. If you’re disturbed by a noise problem, note the times and the nature of the noise. This will help when reporting it to the manager or Sheriff ’s department. • Visit your neighbor. If your neighbor is the source of the noise, try a friendly chat. Sometimes people just don’t realize how noise is affecting others. People are usually considerate once they realize they’re disturbing others. And, if your neighbor knocks on your door, listen politely and be willing to made changes to reduce your own noise. • Contact the manager. If a polite request doesn’t change your neighbor’s noisiness, it may be time to ask the manager for help. Have your noise log ready, including attempts to solve the problem yourself. Reducing noise sounds like a good idea. A quiet, peaceful community, relatively speaking, is a happy community!
