Ultimate Grilled Pizza Recipe Quick-rise yeast gets mixed right in with the flour and salt and needs no proofing. Grilling pizza gives it a smoky flavor not unlike that from a wood-burning oven. If you like, grill onions, peppers and sausages and let guests personalize their own pizzas. 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 package quick-rise yeast 3/4 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup hot water (120 F to 130 F) 2 teaspoons olive oil 2 tablespoons olive oil 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese 12 fresh basil leaves 2 small ripe tomatoes Salt and coarsely ground black pepper 1. Prepare outdoor grill for direct grilling over medium heat. 2. In large bowl, combine flour, yeast and salt. Stir in hot water and 2 teaspoons oil until blended and dough comes away from side of bowl. Turn onto lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. 3. Shape dough into two 10-inch rounds or four 6-inch rounds (do not form rims). Cover with greased plastic wrap; let rest 15 minutes. 4. Place dough rounds on hot grill rack over medium heat and grill until underside of dough turns golden and grill marks appear, 2 to 5 minutes. With tongs, turn rounds over. 5. Brush lightly with some remaining oil. Top with mozzarella, then basil and tomato slices. Grill until cheese begins to melt, 3 to 5 minutes longer. Drizzle with remaining olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Makes 12 appetizer servings. TIP: No time to make your own dough? Frozen bread dough from the supermarket or pizza dough purchased from your local pizza parlor is a great stand-in for homemade dough. Follow the thawing directions on the package if using frozen dough. AIRLINE CAREERS

M AT U R E H O U S E KEEPER Looking to clean your home: 15 Years experience. References. Call Christine, 822-1199.

My sister told me that Bradley Cooper is going to star in a network TV show, but I told her that can’t be true, because he has a huge movie career. — Bobby S., Fresno, California That’s mostly true. CBS has picked up the drama series “Limitless,” which is a continuation of the hit 2001 movie that starred Bradley in the lead role of Eddie Mora. Bradley does appear in the pilot episode, reprising his movie role, and will recur throughout the season as his schedule permits. This is a new show I definitely plan to keep an eye on. *** Nooo! I read that Fox canceled “The Mindy Project.” Please tell me this isn’t true. — Nina D., via email It’s true, however, it isn’t the end for “Mindy.” Hulu announce in mid-May that it has ordered a 26-episode season four of the critically acclaimed series, to air exclusively on hulu.com. A premiere date for the fourth season has yet to be announced. Following the premiere, Hulu will have the option to order subsequent seasons. “I am thrilled that ‘The Mindy Project’ has found a new home on Hulu, where so many of our fans are already watching the show. It’s such an exciting place to be,” said series star and creator, Mindy Kaling. *** I have never written to a reporter in my 77 years on Earth. I simply enjoy your column each and every Sunday in our local Florida paper. I felt compelled to write you because my new favorite guilty pleasure is “Battle Creek,” which I hear is already canceled. Every character had a unique role, and the way Russ (played by Dean Winters) and Milt (Josh Duhamel) interact is hilarious. Thank you for reading this. — Rosemarie C., via email You’d think that with the likes of Kal Penn, Candice Bergen and Patton Oswalt also involved, the show would be a shoo-in for a second-season pickup. The renewal gods are a strange lot, and it sometimes just comes down

to timing. Perhaps if “Battle Creek” had premiered in the summer on a network like TNT or FX — networks that are known for nurturing and taking time with their new shows — it would have had more of a chance. *** READERS: Here are the Fox shows that have been renewed and canceled, starting with the renewed shows: “Bob’s Burgers,” “Bones,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Empire,” “Family Guy,” “Gotham,” “Hell’s Kitchen,” “MasterChef,” “MasterChef Junior,” “New Girl,” “The Last Man on Earth,” “The Simpsons,” “Sleepy Hollow,” “So You Think You Can Dance” and “World’s Funniest Fails.” TV shows that have either ended their run or been canceled include: “American Idol” (after season 15, which begins January 2016), “Backstrom,” “The Following” (although it is being shopped elsewhere), “Gang Related,” “Glee,” “Gracepoint,” “Kitchen Nightmares,” “The Mindy Project” (see Hulu announcement above), “Mulaney,” “Red Band Society,” “Utopia” and “Weird Loners.” Write to Cindy at King Features Weekly Service, P.O. New Corn Technology Means Fewer Pests (NAPSA)—U.S corn growers have a new option to control corn rootworm and corn borer. This may be good news for farmers and consumers, given that the pests rob over $1 billion in yields from the corn industry. To get an entire season of inplant protection against yield-robbing corn borer and rootworm pests, a new corn technology was developed, called YieldGard Plus, which combines the two specific genes found in YieldGard Rootworm and YieldGard Corn Borer into one convenient hybrid. YieldGard Plus also offers broadspectrum, in-the-bag insect control of white grub, wireworm, sugar cane borer, southern corn stalk borer, seed corn maggots, early flea beetle, and suppresses earworm, fall armyworm and stalk borer. According to David Rhylander, Monsanto’s U.S. Trait Technologies Director, “YieldGard Plus provides a powerful tool to control corn. It provides more pest control than leading insecticides and enables the corn plant to develop maximum root systems and healthier stalks.” Rhylander also says the product offers growers more than rootworm and corn borer control. It gives them a farm management tool that maximizes their crop’s yield potential and profitability. It’s reported that during 2003, farmers using the product demonstrated a 14-bushel yield advantage in field trials. Experts say this kind of increase in yields means growers could see a higher profit potential. “The 14-bushel yield advantage translates into a return of $20 more per acre than conventional corn treated with insecticides, making YieldGard Plus one of the

Fighting pests in a way that leads to an increase in yields means growers could see a higher profit potential. most profitable corn systems available,” says Rhylander. According to Todd DeGooyer, the company’s Trait Technical Development Manager, one way the new technology will maximize yield potential is by making a big difference in the amount of nutrients and moisture a plant can send to its corn ears. Said DeGooyer, “The nutrient and moisture uptake capabilities of a corn plant’s roots and stalk are essential to maximum performance. Having a tool that provides protection from pests that feed on these areas can make a difference in yields.” In addition, the new hybrid offers growers increased convenience by reducing the need to handle insecticides separately. Monsanto Company (NYSE: MON)—the seed’s maker—is described as a leading global provider of technology-based solutions and agricultural products that improve farm productivity and food quality. Air ducts and ventilation systems accumulate fine dust particles, pet hair or even tobacco smoke residue, possibly promoting mold growth and bacteria colonies. You can tell if your heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system should be cleaned, by using a screwdriver to remove the floor register or wall vent— and checking out the contents. If you see accumulated dust, mold or mildew, consider calling a professional HVAC system cleaning contractor. Make sure the company is a certified member of the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA), an organization that tests the knowledge of contractors for safe and effective HVAC cleaning. I have a Buddy Lee doll that I received in the late 1940s. It is still dressed in its original Lee overalls and cap. I rarely played with this doll, so although it is not mint, it is in excellent condition. I have been offered $150 for it, but thought I would check with you first. — Barbara, Laguna Beach, California Buddy Lee dolls have molded hair, painted eyes and are jointed at the shoulder, with stiff hips and legs. They are dressed in Lee clothes. Most of the Buddy Lee dolls I have seen do not have their original clothes, so this makes the one you have especially desirable. Ones with composition heads were made during the 1920-1948 period, and the later ones with heads of hard plastic from 19491962. There were other variations, too. For example, Buddy Lee dressed in a Coca-Cola uniform, John Deere clothing and as a gas-station attendant also were manufactured. According to “Blue Book Dolls & Values” by Jan Foulke and published by Hobby House Press, your doll is valued in the $450 to $550 range, so my advice is explore more options before you accept the offer you have. *** I have about a dozen perfume bottles that originally belong to my grandmother. ‘40s. How can I find out more about them? — Steve, Rye, New York One of the better organizations for collectors is the International Perfume Bottle Association. Contact is www.perfumebottles.org, and 732-492-2003. There are several excellent references. One of my favorites is “The Wonderful World of Collecting Perfume Bottles: Identification & Value Guide” by Jane Flanagan and published by Collector Books.

*** I have a large-size book of Norman Rockwell illustrations, suitable for framing. How much are they worth, and how can I find a buyer? — Eva, Olney, Illinois Your question is impossible for me to answer. You did not provide me with the edition and publisher. Without that information, I cannot establish a value. Most Norman Rockwell collections I’ve seen have generally sold in the $25 to $75 range, again, depending on condition, edition and publisher.

2. We recommend NEVER to do business with a roofing contractor that has been in business less than 10-15 years. 80% of roofers go out of business within the first 5 years and then your warranty is worthless. 3. We recommend NEVER to have your roof replaced by XXX Home Improvements, XXX Construction or any other name that does not include “Roofing”. Most of these companies do not have proper roofing insurance. 4. We recommend to ALWAYS check with the Rhode Island Contractors Board @ www.crb.gov/ to check out the company and their track record.

The best part of the bounty of summer is the abundance of fresh fruits. Eating fruit is not only delicious and refreshing, it’s also good for you. Most fruits are naturally low in fat, sodium and calories. None have cholesterol. People who eat fruit as part of an overall healthy diet are likely to have a reduced risk of heart disease, including heart attack and stroke. It also may protect against certain types of cancers, and reduce the risk of obesity and Type 2 diabetes. Fruits are the source of many essential nutrients that aren’t consumed as much as they should be, including potassium, dietary fiber, vitamin C and folate (folic acid). Diets rich in potassium may help to maintain healthy blood pressure. Sources of potassium include bananas, prunes and prune juice, dried peaches and apricots, cantaloupe, honeydew melon and orange juice. Dietary fiber from fruits helps reduce blood cholesterol levels and may lower the risk of heart disease. Fiber is important for proper bowel function, and helps reduce constipation and diverticulosis. Fibercontaining foods such as fruits help us feel full with fewer calories. (Note: Fruit juices contain little or no fiber.) Folate (folic acid) helps form red

seeded and sliced tablespoons finely chopped fresh mint Poppy Seed Dressing or Spicy Chili Vinaigrette 1. Combine water and quinoa in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to simmer and cook with cover on for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside, with cover off, to cool completely. 2. Arrange cherries, watermelon, plums and papaya in container with lid. Toss with quinoa and mint. Cover and refrigerate salad until ready to serve with your choice of dressing. Do not dress salad until ready to eat. Makes 6 servings. 2

blood cells. In women of childbearing age, folic acid reduces the risk of neural tube defects, spina bifida and anencephaly during fetal development. My recipe for fruit salad is combined with quinoa to make it a healthier and more versatile dish for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Quinoa is native to Bolivia and is a relative of Swiss chard, spinach and beets. It comes in three varieties (whole grain white, red and black) and is gluten free and packed with nutritional benefits. Quinoa also is a complete protein, which means it provides all nine essential amino acids necessary for good health. Your body can’t produce these nutrients itself, so you have to get them frequently through food. Just one cup contains 8 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber, plus significant amounts of iron, magnesium, folate and heart-healthy omega 3 fatty acids.

BLESSED VIRGIN

HOLLYWOOD — Is it time for 52-year-old Tom Cruise to stop making action films? His latest, “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation,” with Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Alec Baldwin, will be released July 31, followed by the upcoming “Jack Reacher 2.” The original “Jack Reacher” (2012), cost $60 million and grossed $218 million. “Oblivion” (2013), which cost $120 million and grossed $286 million, was followed by “Edge of Tomorrow” (2014), at a cost $178 million and a gross of $369 million. But when you consider that “Jerry Maguire” (1996), cost only $50 million and grossed $273 million, and earned Cruise a best-actor Oscar nomination, you wonder why he stopped making that kind of film. He also received Oscar nominations for “Born on the Fourth of July” (1990) and “Magnolia” (as supporting actor in 2000). He won Golden Globes for all three films. Action films are like dessert, not a main meal. *** “The Rock,” aka Dwayne Johnson, has parlayed a wrestling career into a red-hot movie career. His “San Andreas,” with Carla Gugino, is now playing; the action comedy “Central Intelligence,” with Kevin Hart and Ed Helms, opens June 2016; and the Disney animated film “Moana” is set for November 2016. In 2013, “Empire State,” with Liam Hemsworth and Emma Roberts, disappointedly went directly to DVD at a cost of $11 million with only $3,682,418 in sales. But “The Rock” recovered with four other films released that year. “Snitch” with Susan Sarandon, took in $58 million; “G.I. Joe Retaliation,” with Bruce Willis (cost $130 million/ gross $376 million); “Pain and Gain,” with Mark Wahlberg top billed, cost $160 million and grossed $789 million; and “Hercules,” which cost $100 million and grossed $243 million (“The Legend of Hercules,” with

Dwayne Johnson Kellan Lutz, which came out first, cost $70 million and grossed only $61 million). The $160 million “Fast and Furious 6” earned $789 million, and was followed by “Furious 7,” which has grossed $1.5 billion, making it the fourth top-grossing film of all time. Talk about reinventing yourself! *** Two-time Oscar winner Jane Fonda, riding high in the 13 episode Netflix series “Grace and Frankie,” with Lili Tomlin, hits big screens again in the Italian made “Youth,” which screened May 20 at Cannes, with Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel and Rachel Weisz, and will be followed by “Father and Daughters,” with Russell Crowe, Aaron Paul and Amanda Seyfried. Mel Gibson is filming the action-thriller “Blood Father,” with “Shameless” star William H. Macy. Mel plays an ex-con hosting a celebration at a musical theater society that goes wrong when drug dealers come to kill his daughter. RV Survival Guide So you’ve bought an RV and you’re ready to take to the open road in 3 mpg increments. Due to the RV’s sheer size and the amount of money invested in it, you’re going to have a lot of questions and concerns your first couple of times out. That’s why most people recommend you do a “dry run” in your driveway or local RV park. Here, are some more suggestions. You need help This should be self-evident. Most people never have problems with their RV, but when you consider what can go wrong with a car or truck, or a vacation home or boat, and combine them into one vehicle, you’ll learn soon enough that stuff happens. And when it does you’ll need special RV insurance, and that insurance should come with roadside assistance or else you’ll have to pay for RV-specific roadside help — even if you have roadside assistance for your cars. It also helps to have another set of eyes on board (and no, your dog or cat does not count). You’ll need someone to help you back in and out of tight situations and to remind you of all the things you forgot to do before taking off. Make a checklist Like any good pilot, you need a checklist of things to do before taking off and landing at your site. There are apps for this and lists on the Internet, and they come in handy when you have about 20 things to shut off, like your water heater and

pumps. Also, you don’t want to forget to lower your TV antenna before leaving the campsite, as they make terrible tree pruners. Have a plan Wanderlust can be a great thing, but you have to understand that you can no longer drive and/or park where you are used to driving and parking. You need to research RV-specific routes that take into account things like your propane tank and the size of your vehicle. You don’t want to drive 20 miles down a dirt road in, say, West Virginia only to encounter a small bridge intended for 19th-century mule traffic, with no space to turn around. Also, you might want to check up on the site you plan on visiting. Good Sam is a RV resource online that offers trip planning and Frommer-like RV-park ratings. Learn to love Walmart ... and baskets One of the few places that will welcome an RV with open arms is Walmart, where you can park without hassle (something you cannot do in most municipalities) and stock up on supplies, as they have a whole row dedicated to RVs. Also they sell baskets, lots of them, which you’ll need to put everything in because, remember, your house on wheels moves and things definitely will have shifted during the ride. Also, if you just got done camping, you are one of those people dressed weird in Walmart ... just saying. Relax (or don’t do it) Take the slow road, and stop and see the world’s largest ball of twine, have a sandwich at the beach and see the sights with your family and friends. Sure, it gets a little Outward Bound at times, but in the end, the memories are what you’re really buying. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) A business decision seems easy enough to make based on what you know. But this week could bring new facts to light, and you might have to do some heavy rethinking. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) Feeling sure about the steps you expect to take is great. But you may need to share a few dollops of that confidence with those who have some doubts about your plans. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) A sense of well-being dominates much of the week. A slightly depressed mood could set in on the weekend. But being with family and friends helps shoo it away. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) You appear to be walking your life’s path like the sure-footed Goat you are. But someone might feel you could do better. Listen to the advice, but make up your own mind. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) With positive signs growing stronger, Aquarians could find themselves facing choices that are each too good to turn down. Best advice: Go for the one you feel most comfortable with. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Someone you know might need your comfort and wisdom during a particularly difficult period. Your encouraging words help restore self-confidence and rebuild strength. BORN THIS WEEK: Your kindness to all who need you is always appreciated and sets a fine example for others to follow. © 2015 King Features Synd., Inc.

Wednesday Nights:

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Choosing to work with someone you once thought might have been disloyal is a courageous move. The logical next step is to talk things out so there’ll be no reason for raising suspicions again. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) Take your time making a decision about a personal or work-related relationship. New facts are still coming in, and you’ll want to know the full story before you take a definitive step. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) Expect to learn something new about an old problem. This could provide some insight into how the problem began, and why it still defies efforts to find a resolution. Good luck. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) An uneasy work-related relationship can be eased with compromises by both sides. The parties might consider putting the agreed-upon changes in writing in case of a future misunderstanding. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Oh, you lucky Felines: Your romantic aspects are in absolutely purrrfect form. Don’t be surprised at how especially attentive the ladies and gentlemen in your life are going to be this week. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Looking to prove yourself in a difficult situation is laudable. But try paying more attention to advice from experienced contacts. It could help you avoid time-wasting missteps.

WORKSHOPS: Acoustic stringed instruments, 2nd & 4th Monday. Club Jogues, 184 Boston Street, Coventry. Bring your instrument & $10. Call 487-3705.
