The Most important part of any successful camping tip is planning! Please take a moment to read the following paragraphs-they will explain the plan for the weekend.
Check In : Check in will start between 4:30pm to7:30pm on Friday night. When you arrive you will be directed by staff to go to your camp site for the evening. They will want to know your unit and how many are camping in the unit. This is were you will be given any final schedules for the weekend. Please put as much equipment into as few vehicles as you can. The fewer vehicles the faster it is to unload and get to having fun. Please make sure to move your vehicles to the designated parking areas. Part of the fun is camping in the woods, not in a parking lot. At 8:30 there will be a leaders meeting. Please send one leader from each unit to this meeting. We will go over actives and complete roster of all youth and adults that are with you.
Lights Out: We are asking that for both Friday and Saturday night that starting at 10:30pm be lights out.
Sunday Breakfast: You should prepare whatever you like for breakfast Sunday morning. Start early so that you can be at services by 9:30am.
Chapel: Remember that a Scout is reverent and respects the rights of others to their religious beliefs. Chapel will be a non-denominational service.
Clean up Chapel will be over around 10:00 a.m. Time to head home! Everyone should police each campsite before leaving. Remember that a scout is clean and always leaves a campsite cleaner than when they found it. Camp closes at 11:30 a.m.,
Late check in will begin Saturday morning at 8:00am and go till 9:00am. Please let the staff know if your unit is just there for the day or will be camping that night.
Rules:
Actives:
2. No alcohol or drugs at any time. Failure to comply with this will result in an escort off the premises.
1.
Speed limit is 15MPH throughout the camp
Actives will began at 9:00 at the flag pole with an opening ceremony. Program will began right after the opening ceremony. Actives will be BB Guns, Archery, Wrist Rockets, Nature Hike, Plant Identification , Lashing and Knot tying, Leave no Trace (camp awareness Skills), Outdoor Code, First Aid (what to do outdoors), Campfire Cooking skills, Proper sanitation outdoors, Fire building skills, How to start a fire (flint and Steel), Proper flag handling , Lizzie Gator Swamp, Dodge ball, Relay Racing (all units race and the unit with the best over all time wins), Leather working / crafting
4. No blocking of roads, emergency vehicles need to be able to move freely throughout the camp in case of emergencies.
Choose actives that interest you and are not crowded and rotate through them. There is 3 hours before lunch and 4 hours after lunch, so budget your time accordingly to see and do it all.
7. No nails in any tree or cutting of live trees
Lunch: Lunch is between 12:00-1:00pm and is on your own campsite.
Supper: Actives will close at 5:00pm and you will need to go to your campsite to prepare your supper. All units are encouraged to have there scouts prepare, cook, and clean up for there evening meal. Remember for the weekend you should practice having boy lead units as it is done in the troops. All units are responsible for all there meals for the weekend and should appoint different boys for each task making sure to rotate the task through the weekend.
Campfire Program: There will be a campfire program Saturday night at 7:30pm and awards will be announced then.
3. No parking or driving in the campsites. Load and unload from the road. Unit trailers can be parked on the side of the site.
5. All vehicles must be parked in camp parking areas only, no driving or parking on the activity fields 6. No digging in the campsites
8. No pets of any type 9. Fires must be in fire pits at least 8” off the ground and must be at‐ tended at all times. When putting out a fire, it must be out with cold water. After putting out your fire, neatly stack any reusable firewood out of the mower’s path. Please restore the fire area back to a natural state. 10. When ready to check out, remove all gear and police all of your campsite and common areas (water point, parking lot etc.) Wash out latrines using water. 11. Plan to “pack in, pack out”. The dumpster onsite is not large enough to hold all the trash generated during events such as Encamp‐ ment. Please make arrangements to haul trash off site when you leave the event.
Materials and volunteers needed and estimated cost per event BB Guns: We will have to check out BB guns and safety glasses. Need to make copies of targets and buy BBs for the range average cost per scout on range will be $0.10 you will need 1 to 2 trained people and will need 2 to 3 scout helpers to keep range running smooth
Archery: We will have to check out the Archery gear. We will need to see if we can get targets We can set an average cost per scout as $0.50 in case we need to replace anything, need 1 to 2 trained people and will need 2 to 3 scout helpers to keep range running smooth
Wrist Rockets: We will need to check out gear and provide our own shots we can use the BBs for this as well keeping the cost per scout at $0.10 you will need 1 to 2 trained people and 1 to 2 scouts to help
Nature Hike: You will have no cost for this but you will need 1 to 2 people to run it. They should know enough about nature to help teach and explain plants and even tracks seen on the hike
Plant Identification: only cost will be in handouts to help teach plants. I have one at 20 pg. $0.05 per copy makes cost $1.00 per scout. You will only need 1 to 2 people to teach this or you can add it to the start of the nature hike and will need no extra people.
Lashing and Knot tying: If we chose to give each scout a piece of cord to practice on then the cost per scout will be $0.50 each. That will get the cord and wax cord to lash it with. All other rope should not be hard to have on loan from a troop willing to teach knot tying. We will need 2 to 4 people for this course.
Leave no Trace (camp awareness Skills) Plastic Ethics Reference Cards from the leave no trace web site is $.025 each per 1‐ 99 and can be used as a handout for this class that would be the only cost. You would need 1 to 2 people Outdoor Code: The outdoor code pocket certificate is $0.12 per scout . You would need 1 to 2 people to teach it or add it to LNT and no extra people will be needed.
First Aid (what to do outdoors): Everything for this should be able to be donated for the day. I have talked to an EMT who might be able to do the course but he would still need 1 to 2 boy scouts to help
Campfire Cooking skills: A troop with a good cooking set up would be good for this. Any were from 2 to 3 people would be needed. If we could I would like to make several clobbers using a douche oven and let the boys try them, or supply to each unit a the items for them to go back and make there own. The max cost would be for yellow cake mix, can of fruit, and 1 stick of butter $3.00 per unit. That was just a sugges‐ tion.
Proper sanitation outdoors: A troop with a good cooking and cleaning set up would be good to work this. You would need 2 to 3 people for this or add this to campfire cooking skills and no extra people needed.
Fire building skills: 2 to 3 people How to start a fire: 1 to 2 people or add to fire building skills and no extra people needed Proper flag handling: 1 to 2 people Lizzie Gator Swamp: 1 to 2 people to work see if we can get the drums and plywood donated for the day as well as the broom sticks Dodge ball: 2 to 3 people to work have people donate balls for the day Relay Racing: 2 to 3 people to work it Leather working / crafting : 2 to 3 people to work. To make the bracelets they are $1.99 each and the come holder you will only need a 5”x7” piece of leather average cost $1.00
Total people needed 30 to 40 Total cost per scout $5.57 plus patch cost Fees brought in is $10.00 unit fee and a $10.00 per scout fee Unit fee can help to feed lunch to those who work the event . Serve hot dogs, chips, cookie, apple or banana, and kool‐aid
