Welcome to the Winfield Sting Try-outs!!! We are pleased that you have decided to try-out for the possibility of becoming a member of our Sting Team family. Travel Softball can be a very rewarding experience. It is our hope that the upcoming season will offer you a chance to make new friends and develop your softball skills. All girls must try-out for a position on one of our teams regardless of Sting history. We have 3 main goals for our players: 1) Become a better Softball Player. 2) Placing a competitive team on the field. 3) Have a good time; enjoy yourself and your teammates in a safe environment. We will do our best to help you achieve these goals. Because success does not come easily, we will be asking you and your family to commit time and effort so that these goals can be met. Below you will find some important information regarding this year’s program, including expectations, expenses and a general idea of our schedule. Expectations 1) September and October, Fall Ball, consists of games and scrimmages typically on the weekends. 2) Winter practice starts in December and marks the beginning of the regular season. Indoor practices are usually on Sundays. 3) Spring practice will begin in March including indoor/outdoor, depending on weather. Time requirements include one to two nights per week and time on the weekends. 4) Once the season begins, you will have a two night per week and Double Headers on Sunday commitment most weeks. 5) We will participate in, 5-7 tournaments (16U & 18U 7-8). The tournaments are usually played during June and July and are subject to change. Expenses the fees for playing for Winfield Sting are $425.00 (16U & 18U $500.00). This is a very moderate cost considering what is included and the cost of other programs of this caliber in the area. Your registration fee includes; Uniform, Umpire Fees, Tournaments, etc. In addition, you will be asked to participate in fundraisers designed to help offset the cost of the program. The Schedule starts in the fall as stated above. We will have indoor practice in the winter and of course really intensify our efforts in the spring. Typically, you can plan on 2 hour practices and 2 hours for games during the week. Generally, Double Headers require a 5 hour commitment on Sundays, not including drive time. Tournament play is a weekend event. You can plan on spending the weekend playing ball. We request that players arrive, ready to begin, at the scheduled time for all activities. Our coaches may have a variation of the schedule to adapt to what is best for his or her team. The 16/18 age group will not participate in the CML. This team will be a tournament team participating in between 7-8 tournaments next season. Once again, Welcome to the Winfield Sting Tryouts! Good Luck!
