The Wellness, Health and Safety (WHS) Advisor’s key purpose is to contribute to and enhance Navitas’ commitment to promoting wellness and ensuring the health and safety for everyone who works, learns or visits with us, by effectively developing and implementing WHS programs across Navitas and leading the injury management and return to work program. Initially a 12 month contract, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to make this role their own and demonstrate value add to the business. This role will also be suitable for a Rehabilitation Provider that provides occasional Health & Safety consulting wanting to transition to an in-house role dealing with Wellness, Health & Safety including the internal Injury Management/RTW Coordination, to achieve real change across a global organisation, then this role could provide the challenges and opportunities you have been looking for.
The ideal candidate we seek will ideally have the following:
Tertiary Health & Safety or Allied Health Professional qualifications and/or industry experience Return to Work Coordinators qualifications or background in rehabilitation provision Eligible for membership of SIA as Certified Practitioner/Certified Professional Take the lead in establishing and implementing an annual wellness calendar for Navitas employees Promote wellness activities across all Navitas businesses and develop a Champions network to engage and drive local initiatives Contribute towards the development of simple and pragmatic health & safety procedures, tools and resources Provide training and develop capability in health & safety across the HR team Experience in coordinating all aspects of injury management and workplace rehabilitation including treatment, rehabilitation, claims management and return to work coordination Comprehensive and practical understanding of Workers Compensation legislation, principles and contemporary injury management practices Analyse data relating WHS programs and performance including trend analysis and identification of areas for improvement Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate, resolve conflict and communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders Proven ability to work across a geographically disperse organisation with a large number of operational locations Project management skills and a successful track record of driving, implementing and reviewing programs and processes within a shared services environment

Wellness
Take the lead in establishing an annual wellness calendar for Navitas employees
Develop wellness articles, promotional materials and resources to support local implementation of wellness initiatives across our colleges, campuses and business units
Promote wellness activities across all Navitas businesses and develop a Champions network to engage and drive local initiatives
Assist in the development of mentally healthy workplace initiatives that support our employees and business
Lead the implementation of any global wellness programs eg Stepathlon, Global Challenge.
Health and Safety:
Support management and staff awareness of WHS responsibilities and accountabilities
Support HR Business Partners and colleges, campuses and business units in developing, implementing and monitoring their annual WHS Action Plans
Provide training and develop capability in health & safety across the HR team

Contribute towards the development of simple and pragmatic health & safety procedures, tools and resources
Evaluate health & safety procedures, tools and resources and make recommendations on improvements
Encourage the prompt reporting of hazards and incidents for all employees, students, contractors and visitors
Monitor compliance with workplace policies and procedures
Coordinate and participate in incident and emergency response programs
Support the business in developing effective risk controls that address key areas identified within their risk registers
Conduct/participate and monitor investigations into workplace incidents to ensure all risk rating 3 or above incidents are investigated and the results recorded
Attend and actively participate in health & safety and other mandatory training.
Worker’s Compensation
Improve and build on the workers compensation and injury management program at Navitas
Management of workers compensation processes to ensure Navitas: o
Meets its obligations under relevant Workers Compensation legislation
o
Ensure early intervention and timely return to work of ill and injured employees where it is safe and practicable to do so
o
Actively manages the risk of Workers Compensation premium escalation
o
Provides recommendations for prevention of injury and illness.
Undertake the functions of a Return to Work Coordinator under Workers Compensation legislation including; o
Actively managing cases of employee injuries and/or illnesses
o
Develop, implement and monitor suitable duties programs for injured workers, including the development of Return to Work Plans.
Where an individual is ill or injured, provide timely updates to Head of Wellness, Health and Safety and the relevant staff managers on their progress
Establish and maintain external relationships with various service providers including our brokers Aon, Workers Compensations Insurers, specialist medical consultants, rehabilitation providers and allied health providers
Ensure adequate processes are in place for timely follow up of hazard and staff incident reports to prevent workplace injury and illness
Stay abreast of relevant changes in worker’s compensation legislation, nationwide.
Monitoring and Reporting
Maintain Health and Safety records including injury, hazard and risk registers
Manage the Health & Safety Information System
Develop standard reports for management to utilise in reviewing wellness, health & safety performance
Identify options for wellness, health & safety metrics and dashboards with a focus on lead indicators
Provide training and develop capability across the HR team in health & safety reporting and analysis
Analyse data relating WHS programs and performance including trend analysis and identification of areas for improvement
Ensure the business wellness, health & safety activities and operations are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and company standards
Ensure prompt notification and escalation of new incidents of employee injury and/or illness, report on existing cases.

Provide specialist WHS advice, provide coaching, mentoring and training to ensure managers meet their obligations in accordance with relevant policy and procedures.
Enhance induction information & training for staff to be aware of the WHS systems and processes
Update and enhance WHS information through the relevant Navitas intranet pages
Research, facilitate and deliver topical training sessions and information guides to aid in the prevention of workplace injuries and/or incidents.
Participate in projects as requested.
Travel as required to meet with managers, manager workers compensation claims, provide coaching or training.
4.
Qualifications and Selection Criteria
Essential:
Tertiary Health & Safety or Allied Health Professional qualifications
Eligible for membership of SAI as Certified WHS Practitioner/Certified WHS Professional
Experience in coordinating all aspects of injury management and workplace rehabilitation including treatment, retraining, claims management and return to work coordination
Comprehensive and practical understanding of Workers Compensation legislation, principles and contemporary injury management practices
Demonstrated ability to provide return to work coordination and rehabilitation case management in accordance with various WorkCover/Regulators Standards and Guidelines.
Return to Work Coordinators qualifications or background in rehabilitation provision
Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate, resolve conflict and communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
Proven ability to work across a geographically disperse organisation with a large number of operational locations
Project management skills and a successful track record of driving, implementing and reviewing programs and processes within a shared services environment
Self-starter and ability to work independently and identify opportunities to drive positive outcomes
Ability to exercise discretion and initiative when dealing with matters of a confidential and sensitive nature
Applied experience in using MS Office suite
Strong written communication and administration skills.
Unrestricted Australian driver's licence.
Desirable:
Experience in insurance management and premium reduction for workers compensation claims.
Ability to utilise Human Resource Information Systems to obtain relevant employee data; iChris/Chris21 experience advantageous
Knowledge of relevant state work health and safety legislation
Possession of relevant tertiary qualifications in injury and case management
