West Side Presbyterian Church Sacrament of Holy Communion

10:15 am Service

Moses came down from Mount Sinai. As he came down from the mountain with the two covenant tablets in his hand, Moses didn’t realize that the skin of his face shone brightly because he had been talking with God. -Exodus 34:29

Never since has there arisen a prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face. He was unequaled for all the signs and wonders that the LORD sent him to perform in the land of Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants and his entire land, and for all the mighty deeds and all the terrifying displays of power that Moses performed in the sight of all Israel. -Deuteronomy 34:10-12 And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit. -II Corinthians 3:18 Whenever Moses went into the LORD’s presence to speak with Him, Moses would take the veil off until he came out again. When Moses came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, the Israelites would see that the skin of Moses’ face was shining brightly. So Moses would put the veil on his face again until the next time he went in to speak with the LORD. -Exodus 34:34-35

*CALL TO WORSHIP and OPENING PRAYER Blessed is the Lord our God, who revealed the law to Moses. The Lord our God is holy! Blessed is the Lord our God, who has spoken through the prophets. The Lord our God is holy! Blessed is the Lord our God, who came to us in Jesus Christ. The Lord our God is holy! The One who spoke and called light out of darkness now shines in our hearts. The Lord our God is holy! The One who comes and does not keep silence now speaks in our midst. The Lord our God is holy! Now we have seen the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. The Lord our God is holy! Let us pray: Great God of dazzling beauty and overshadowing majesty, in Jesus Christ, Your beloved, we glimpse the image of Your glory. Teach us to listen to Him so that we may hear Your voice and follow Your holy way; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. 2

DEO GRACIAS

CALL TO CONFESSION PRAYER OF CONFESSION God of compassion, in Jesus Christ You reveal the light of Your glory, but we turn away, distracted by our own plans. We confess that we speak when we should listen and act when we should wait. Forgive our aimless enthusiasms. Grant us wisdom to live in Your light and to follow the way of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. KYRIE

John 17:1-3

After Jesus had spoken these words, He looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son so that the Son may glorify You, since You have given Him authority over all people, to give eternal life to all whom You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” *HYMN 73

Blessed are You, O Lord, God of Moses, Elijah and all the prophets: At Mount Sinai You spoke to Your servant Moses, giving the Law to guide Your people in the way of life that You intend for all. Therefore we praise You, joining the song of the universal church and heavenly choir:

*SANCTUS (Choir and congregation singing)

Blessed is Jesus Christ, our Savior, the light of the world: On a mountain You let Your glory shine, so that we might see Jesus as He really is: Your Chosen and Beloved, our Lord and our God. Remembering Your goodness and grace, we offer ourselves to You with gratitude as we share this joyful feast. MEMORIAL ACCLAMATION

Pour out Your Holy Spirit upon us and upon this bread and cup; make us one in the body and blood of Jesus Christ our Lord. In Your Spirit, make us one people— one in the promise of Moses, one in the prophesy of Elijah, one in the body of Christ as we seek to proclaim the good news. Let our lives shine with Christ’s light— a blessing of joy to the living, a beacon of hope to the dying, a sign of Your new creation. All this we pray to You, O God, through the gift of Your Spirit and in the grace of Your Word, to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. Please be seated. WORDS OF INSTITUTION AGNUS DEI
