What’s your love language? Do you know and speak the love language of your spouse? In 1995, Gary Chapman wrote, The five love languages: how to express heartfelt commitment to your mate. He referred to them as, “Quality time, Receiving gifts, Words of affection, Physical touch, and Acts of service.” What’s yours?

Promises:

Today we begin an 8 week series on loving God. I wonder what we will encounter about the “love languages of God.” As we begin a new year let’s make plans to love and honor Him. Produces: Commanded:

Evidence:

Personal Application and Group Interaction: 1. We commonly say, “I love….” to describe some of our favorite things. Give it a fresh try with a few different categories (food, people, places etc.).

2. Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength (Mk. 12:2834; Lk. 10:25-28). He said the second was like it: to love our neighbors as ourselves. How is it that all the commandments hang on these two? (Matt 22:34-40)

3. Relationships are dynamic. They go through many phases. How do you think you have been growing in your love for God? What has influenced that growth? How has your love for God been put to the test?

4. What might you do in the days ahead to “speak the love languages” of God? God is not interested in us simply going through the motions of loving Him. He absolutely knows our hearts (Jn 21:15-25). What do you think He’s looking for from you?

5. God told His people that they were to teach their children to love Him (Deut. 6:4-8). How have you been engaged in helping others love Him with all that is within them?
