Worship Excerpt from the Sermon Journal, Monday, August 13, 2018 Written by Pastor Tom Harrison I Belong to Teaching and Fellowship The Day of Pentecost was the birthday of the church (Acts 2). The biblical Greek word for “church” is “ecclesia” and it means “the called-out ones.” We will look at what happened after Pentecost and how the “called-out ones” lived. They experienced opposition from outside the fellowship and from within it (Ananias and Saphira). Notice the behavior of the early Christians. This was not easy. It was a major commitment. As we saw in our study on “extreme ownership,” they exercised, complete engagement with the task.

Something to Think About: What level of commitment am I making? How devoted am I to the teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread and prayers? What can I do to better praise, glorify and honor God? How can I be a person who cares for others? These should not be mutually exclusive. It is not “either/or” but “both/and.”

The refurbishment is getting closer to completion! New furnishings were ordered in May and should be arriving soon. With the help of complimentary design services from our neighbor, Mathis Brothers Furniture, we will have a beautiful selection of new chairs, sofas and tables for the common areas of the building. The new items will coordinate with and enhance our updated branding and word art. The existing furnishings will be repurposed in different ministry areas around campus and the remainder will be gifted to Pastor Gloria’s church, First United Methodist in Wagoner. We call this a win/win/win!

Upcoming Family Events KINDERGARTEN BIBLES AND BLESSINGS TODAY; 8, 9:15 and 11 am services Bibles and Blessings is for all children entering kindergarten fall 2018. Kindergartners and their families will be invited to the front of the worship area to receive a Bible and be prayed over.

ASBURYKIDS BACK-TO-SCHOOL BASH August 22; 5:30-7 pm, playground Come for pizza and REFRESHING outdoor water play (wear swimsuit and bring a towel) along with SUPER FUN prizes. Parents are encouraged to stay and play! It’s going to be an awesome bash!

INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP BACK-TO-SCHOOL PARTY Friday, August 24; 6:30 pm, CLC Meet other international families and students who attend various local schools and colleges. There will be food, gifts and games.

3rd GRADE BIBLE EXPLORERS CLASS September 23 and 30; 3-4:30 pm, Trail Blazers Classroom (2909) 3rd graders and a parent can learn how to study the Bible together. Register at myasburytulsa.org by September 12.
