5. Quickly scan Luke 4-8. When compared to the earlier miracles in Luke, what is different about this particular miracle?

Luke 9:10-17 Message-based Small Group Lesson Overview This well-known miracle is amazing in scope and shows many aspects of Jesus authority and care for people. Perhaps more significantly, it was a defining teaching moment for the disciples as Jesus begins to prepare them for ministering in his name and relying on his power.

6. Why do you think Jesus told the disciples to solve the problem themselves? What would you have been thinking if you were one of the disciples?

7. Jesus takes the loaves and fishes and gives thanks for them. Why does he do this?

1. Initially, Jesus and the disciples “withdrew by themselves,” though there was soon a change of plans. What do you think Jesus had initially hoped to do with the disciples? Can you think of other times when Jesus withdrew?

1. Think of a person you know who you would say truly lives by trusting in Jesus and who understands the absolute limitless nature of His power? Which of their practices would you like to emulate?

2. How do you determine whether it is time for you to withdraw or to adapt to a change of plans? Share a time when you’ve abandoned plans to withdraw in order to care for something or someone.

2. What is one thing you think Jesus may be calling you to do that you feel totally and completely inadequate to do?
