Why Are You Here Today? God knows. And He has a message just for you. We invite you to join in worship and to open your heart to His Word. You might leave encouraged, refreshed or even a changed person. Whatever it is you need, God can provide—and He wants to. That’s why He brought you here today. And we hope He brings you back time and time again. Because we would love for you to become part of the family here at Asbury!

Step 3

The first two steps are designed to help you get started in discipleship and connected with others at Asbury.

Learn2 Courses

The third step combines learning and serving opportunities on Sunday mornings. In addition to worshipping together, we gather in courses to learn and join teams to serve one another.

Asbury is a big church, so to make it easier to find your place and meet people, we designed a new Discipleship Pathway. Our goal is to equip you to develop a close, personal relationship with Jesus, grow spiritually alongside others and further God’s kingdom where you live, work and play. We want to include everyone, whether you are new to Asbury or seeking to deepen your connection and involvement. The path has been laid before you. It’s time to take the first step.

Announcements

Are You New or Looking for a Deeper Connection at Asbury? Asbury is a big church, so to make it easier to find your place and meet people, we designed a new Discipleship Pathway. Our goal is to equip you to develop a close, personal relationship with Jesus, grow spiritually alongside others and further God’s kingdom where you live, work and play. We want to include everyone, whether you are new to Asbury or seeking to deepen your connection and involvement. The path has been laid before you. It’s time to take the first step.

Announcements Children’s Ministry… An Amazingly Rewarding Adventure! CJ Novak joined Asbury in 1994 and has been volunteering in children’s ministry for the past three years, partly because of her three children, John (9), Sam (4), and Olivia (3). She began helping with the 5 and 6-yearolds and then moved to the 3 and 4-year olds. She has no preference for the age she teaches as, according to her, each age is amazing! The older children catch on to things quick, and everything is new and exciting to the younger ones. Her own kids think it’s neat to have Mommy in there! CJ likes the Alpha/Omega structure, which is set up for the entire school year. She volunteers the first two Sundays at 9:15 and has the second two Sundays off. She thinks this is good as it allows the volunteers to have some flexibility. When CJ was first asked to volunteer, she was hesitant to accept. She didn’t really want to “babysit” on Sunday morning and give up her personal time to really connect

CJ, John, Sam and Olivia Novak

with God. She was asked to please consider volunteering for just one quarter (before they went to the school year schedule). She soon learned it is not babysitting. It is teaching kids about God and Jesus, and she gets more out of it than she ever imagined! How do I get involved? How do I sign up? During the month of May, Heather Horton, Children’s Ministry Volunteer Recruiter, will be able to answer questions, give a tour and sign you up for the August 2016-August 2017 school year. She will be available at the south table today.

Current Sermon Series May 22-A distinctly Christian theology of work requires us to recover a theology of rest, play and re-creation. God gives explicit commands regarding the practice and purpose of Sabbath rest that includes not only us but God’s creation. Sabbath-keeping is an overt act of trust that reminds us, and the world, that we are more than what we produce; we are people created in the image of our Creator.
