Do you have questions about God, Jesus, or the Bible? Do you wonder why some people seem to think of Jesus as a right-here, right-now friend? How can you “know” someone who lived and died over 2000 years ago? Why should you want to know him? Is he really loving and good? Can he really be “real” to me today in my life? Can he help me be on the right path? This discussion group is intended to be a safe place to explore answers to your questions, whatever they may be, about these things. This will be a nopressure, no homework (Well, none anticipated, anyway!), come-as-youare-and-bring-your-questions “class.” We’ll discuss possible answers, and then take a look at what the Bible has to say about each particular question. If you think this might be something you’re interested in, but you’re not at all sure, just come once and give it a try! This format will work well too for those who cannot come every week. These questions about deeper meaning in life are important; come, and let’s discover answers together. H By Kay Arthur Discovering the truths of this book will bring you to a deeper and deeper inti-

macy in the worship of our God. Hebrews reveals His perfect plan laid out before your eyes in His provision for your complete forgiveness, your redemption and your sanctification – setting you apart as holy to the Lord - in and through the voluntary sacrificial offering of the body and blood of our Lord Christ Jesus. Eternal truths are revealed in the consecrated ceremonial sacrifices in the Old Testament pointing to the picture of your salvation as a priceless reality in the “once for all” sacrifice given for you. In our study of Hebrews, you will journey through the veil of the flesh of the precious Lamb, by a new and living way, into the Holy of Holies. You will find Him, Jesus, your High Priest who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens. He welcomes you there to hold fast to Him, to worship and adore Him, and receive His allsufficient grace for your every need. In this inductive Bible study we will ask: What does the text of the book of Hebrews say? What does the text mean? And then we will clearly see how these Truths can be applied in all of the circumstances of life that come our way….”running with endurance, the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus…” “This is an awesome study of the book of Hebrews. The Bible has come alive to me as I have learned to study inductively. God has taught me so much. I can't wait to dig into God's Word each day!! It's so exciting for me!” – Rhonda, a fellow Precept class member. Hebrews Teachers: Ruth Hartman & Gina Riffel Wed. 9:15-11:50 AM January 11 – May 10 Book: $20 for Part 2, $10 for Part 3 in either “Precept Upon Precept” or “In & Out” Childcare available.

A Cole Ministries Study The Gospel of John is a beloved book. One commentator remarked, “The Gospel according to John is the most amazing book that was ever written. ‘Put off thy shoes from thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.’ This may well be the attitude of anyone who steps upon the threshold of the study of this book.” The portrait of Jesus that emerges from the Gospel of John is the most profound of all the New Testament books and perhaps of the Bible itself. John reveals Jesus Christ as the Eternal Word, the fully Divine, fully human Messiah, the Creator of all things, the great “I Am,” the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, and the crucified and risen Savior who offers new LIFE to all who believe! Jesus Christ was “Emmanuel, God with us” for 33 years! John’s purpose for writing is summed up in chapter 20:30 -31. “Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of His disciples, which were not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.” The Gospel of John Teacher: Carol Haines Wed. 9:15-11:50 AM January 11 – May 10 Book: $25 Childcare Available

This club is still has plenty of room for growth (in space) but due to a reduced number of leaders for this age group, we want to ensure that no child feels "left out" in his/her questions and learning about God.

is a big, broad ranging J ustice topic, so we thought it would be helpful to define it. Justice is a right relation to God, actively overflowing to self, neighbor, and creation a foretaste of the flourishing and peace of God’s Shalom. We have linked the Word justice to the word Gospel in our theme because we believe that Gospel is more than evangelism. It’s the beautiful news that King Jesus rules and reigns, and is redeeming and reconciling all things to Himself including.us. At Missions Fest 2017 we want to express the concept of Justice as something that begins to flow when God’s people have a right relationship with him; it then naturally extends to others and to all of creation. For that reason, we plan on exploring these three major movements independently in different sessions over the weekend. In addition, we will have three waypoints beginning with a call to salvation on Saturday night, a time to share communion on Sunday morning and a call to participate in Christ’s Mission by making a particular commitment on Sunday afternoon. The anchor scripture for the weekend is the Lord’s Prayer from Matthew 6:9-13.

From the Worship Desk: Now That You Believe: People and Sin

I

n the past few months we have been covering the principles of theology and our response to it. In my understanding, Theology and Worship go hand in hand. When we know something to be true about God we have the opportunity to respond to Him, a.k.a. “worship.” So, in the past few FG articles we have covered the Authority of Scripture, Who is God?, Who is Jesus, and facts about Jesus’ resurrection, and we have been following the outline of a book called, “Know What You Believe,” by Paul Little.

A grandfather was going by his li le granddaughter's room one night when he saw her kneeling beside her bed, with head bowed and hands folded, repea ng the alphabet. "What are you doing?" he asked her. She explained, "I'm saying my prayers, but I couldn't think of just what I wanted to say. So I'm just saying all the le ers of the alphabet, and God can put them together however He thinks best."

Earlier this month, Dan had the privilege of flying 7400 pounds of maize, over a three day period, into this village located on the South Sudan/ Ethiopian border. The impoverished people of this area received this gift with incredible excitement. It was particularly humbling that amidst their poverty, they sent a gift of dried fish back with Dan to the Kenyan church who coordinated the gift of maize. Dan enjoys getting a photo with some of the children from the village. Each day they were excited to see the airplane land with such a huge gift for them in their time of need. On Boxing Day, December 26th, the family delivered pancakes and coffee to the neighborhood askari (guards). For the last three years our family has enjoyed this tradition of making and delivering pancakes and coffee for the 26 askari working throughout our neighborhood.

The South Sudanese women are very strong! Here, some of the them are seen above carrying the 99 pound bags of maize on their heads from the airplane to their village. radically impacts a harsh situation. Found in a series of concluding remarks, the Apostle Paul closes out 1 Thessalonians with a game changer, “In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (5:18 NIV) Thanksgiving doesn’t undo bad that has happened, end the pain of serious loss, or fill the hole left by disappointment. It does highlight hope as we look for the hand of God. Significant loss can distort our understanding of the future. Pain and deprivation can cause us to sink into depression. Hope turns the lights on in the darkness of loss. Genuine thankfulness for the good that is present even in heartbreak, is the fertile soil in which the seeds of hope sprout and grow. Suffering’s disappointment can emotionally cripple us if we flee its icy gaze. However, if we stare back into the darkness, we will find that for which we must truly be thankful. And in giving thanks, we partner with God infusing bleak circumstances with the light of His healing presence. Where God is, there is hope! 

Silver Eagles will meet at DH Buffet on Midway Blvd for lunch at 1:00 on Friday January 20th. Any questions call Chris Malmkar at 308-646-0422.

In preparation for the renovation of our main bathrooms we have to store some of our fixtures and construction supplies in the lobby. During demo and construction restrooms will be available in Bldg. C, downstairs and upstairs. We will also provide portable toilets while the bathrooms are unavailable. The mess will be gone in a few weeks and the results will be awesome! Please bear with us till then.
