Changes in Compounding: Understanding the New Federal Law Maile 1 Avella Specialty Pharmacy William A. McConagha Legislation enacted in 2013 provides for increased government oversight of sterile prescription compounding facilities in order to improve the quality and safety of these medications. Given that ophthalmology practices rely heavily on compounded therapies for the prevention and treatment of many different eye conditions, it is essential to understand these legislative changes and examine their potential impact on prescribing. Participants will hear from Mr. Bill McConagha who spent more than 17 years in high-level positions with the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). Shared information will include: overview of the Drug Quality and Security Act (DQSA); compliance with regulatory requirements such as current Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) for drugs and the importance of using a pharmacy designated as and adhering to rules and regulations of an Outsourcing Facility.
