WORSHIP  AT  HOME   “I  Once  Was  Lost…”   December  27,  2015     Life  Group  Discussion  Questions:   1. On  the  first  two  Sundays  of  the  new  year,  Pastor  Derek  will  be  preaching  on  “I  once  was…”,   and  we  want  to  begin  this  discussion  by  reflecting  on  “I  once  was  lost…”   2. There  are  many  stories  of  the  lost  being  found  in  the  Bible.  Read  through  these  stories   together.  (If  you  want  to  pick  just  one,  choose  the  blind  man  or  Paul.)   a. The  Blind  Man  (John  9)   b. The  Prodigal  Son  (Luke  15:11-‐32)   c. Paul  (Acts  26)   3. These  stories  are  very  different  from  one  another,  yet  they  hold  something  in  common.   They  each  present  the  story  in  three  parts:  1-‐  Life  before  Christ,  2-‐  How  he  came  to  Christ,  3-‐ His  life  after  Christ.  (*Note:  the  story  of  the  Prodigal  Son  is  a  parable,  so  the  father  in  the   story  is  representative  of  Christ.)   a. Identify  the  parts  to  each  of  these  stories.  Who  were  these  people  before  they   encountered  Christ?  What  did  their  encounters  look  like?  How  were  they  changed?   What  would  the  rest  of  their  lives  look  like  (this  isn’t  clear  for  the  blind  man  or  the   prodigal  son,  but  it  is  okay  to  imagine).   b. In  what  kind  of  environment  did  the  Blind  Man  and  Paul  testify  to  Christ?  How  does   this  challenge  and  encourage  us?   4. Reflect  on  your  story-‐  Who  were  you  before  you  met  Christ?  How  did  you  meet  Him?  What   has  He  done  in  your  life  since?  What  is  He  doing  in  your  life  now?  Thinking  on  your  story  in   this  way  keeps  Christ  at  the  center  and  helps  you  to  organize  your  thoughts  and  to  be   prepared  to  share  with  anyone,  whether  a  short  version  (like  the  blind  man  in  John  9:25b)  or   a  more  lengthy  version  (like  Paul).   Application:    Take  time  to  briefly  write  out  your  faith  story  using  this  Before  Christ/  Meeting  Christ/  Now   format  and  then  take  time  for  each  person  to  share  with  the  group  (or  break  into  two’s  or  three’s  and   share).   Prayer  Thought:  Praise  God  that  He  sent  His  Son  to  seek  and  save  the  lost.  Repent  of  taking  that  for   granted  or  for  having  a  hardened  heart  towards  those  who  are  still  lost.  Thank  the  Father  that  you  can   say  “I  once  was  lost,  but  now  I’m  found!”  and  that  He  is  patient  with  us,  not  wanting  any  to  persish  (2   Peter  3:9).  Ask  Him  to  open  your  eyes,  your  heart,  your  mouth  to  share  boldly  the  story  He  has  written   for  your  life,  just  as  the  blind  man  and  Paul  stood  courageously  and  testified  to  the  truth  of  Jesus  in  their   lives.
