LARGE PRINT WORSHIP GUIDE MARCH 17, 2019 8:15, 9:30 AND 11 A.M.

GATHERING AROUND THE WORD

“There are no shortcuts to wholeness. The only way to become whole is to put our arms lovingly around everything we’ve shown ourselves to be: self-serving and generous, spiteful and compassionate, cowardly and courageous, treacherous and trustworthy. We must be able to say to ourselves and to the world at large, ‘I am all of the above.’ Wholeness is the goal, but wholeness does not mean perfection. It means embracing brokenness as an integral part of life.” -Parker Palmer

OPENING VOLUNTARY

Prelude in A Minor, BWV 543 Johann Sebastian Bach

CALL TO WORSHIP One: All: One: All: One: All: One: All:

In this Lenten season, we journey through the wilderness, For we seek to be made whole. In this season, we ask difficult questions and confront hard truths, For we hope to deepen our faith. In this season, we lay down our burdens and engage new practices, For we long to embrace new rhythms of life. In this season and in every season, we gather for worship, For God calls us to journey together. Let us worship God!

*CALL TO CONFESSION AND PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Christ our healer, we long to be made well. We carry pain in our bodies and our spirits, and we confess that we often neglect to treat ourselves with compassion. We confess that we do not know how to care for others who are experiencing pain. Show us your mercy, so that we might be more compassionate. Help us to heal and to be healers. Amen.

*WORDS OF FORGIVENESS

Leader: Friends, hear and believe the good news of the Gospel: People: We are saved by grace through faith. In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God. Amen.

*GLORIA PATRI (HYMN 581)

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

Seven Essential Questions - Do you want to be made well?

Rev. Sarah Johnson

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

God was incarnate in Jesus Christ, who announced good news to the poor, proclaimed release for prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, let the broken victims go free, and proclaimed the year of the Lord’s favor. Jesus came to seek and to save the lost; in his life and death for others, God’s redeeming love for all people was made visible.
