JOIN THE MUSIC MINISTRY

FOR OUR NEW SANCTUARY DEDICATION CELEBRATION AND EASTER SEASON 2017! As we excitedly approach the move into our new Sanctuary, I want to extend a personal invitation for you to be a part of our ECBC Worship Ministry. We are looking for many new members (high school age and above) to join our ECBC Choir, Orchestra and Handbells now! Our new Sanctuary will be a beautiful, worshipful, light filled space for us to join our hearts, hands and voices in worship. Our congregational worship, orchestral music and choral singing will be hearty in that space. I hope, like me, you are getting excited, praying for, and looking forward to this new experience in corporate worship. The New Sanctuary Dedication Committee is busy planning a week of events leading up to a wonderful day of celebration on our first Sunday in the new space. (Be watching for details!) In light of that, our choir, orchestra, and handbells are already working on some wonderful music as we dedicate this building. We will be joined by the Worship Band as we combine worship on Dedication Sunday. All that to say, we need you. If you have EVER been a part, ARE currently a part (but have been out for a while), or ever THOUGHT about being a part of our choir, orchestra or handbells -- we need you now! Join us now to be a part of our New Sanctuary Dedication Choir and Orchestra. Join us for just this special event - or join us for good! It will be wonderful to enter our new sanctuary with a full choir, handbell loft and orchestra pit. Oh, let everything that hath breath give Him praise! If God has given you an ability to sing or play an instrument -- use it for His glory in worship! Please join us THIS WEDNESDAY NIGHT for rehearsal (6:30 - 8:30 pm). If you would like more information, please contact Donna Carole Kitchens at [email protected] or at (843) 856-3222, ext. 2040. Praise the LORD! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD! (Psalm 150 ESV)

WORSHIPGUIDE

THE LORD’S SUPPER

The Church in Corporate Worship Please use the following prayer to prepare your hearts for worship: GOD OF AMAZING GRACE AND PEACE; as we come to Your Table this morning, by the grace You have granted us to partake, give us: a deeper hunger for you; a thirst that is only quenched by Your presence; and a heart that longs to know You more. Clear away the clutter of our lives, and the distractions that so easily deter us, and let us run with a passionate pursuit after you. May we imitate the One who has created us, redeemed us, and set us free. Amen.

FEBRUARY 26, 2017

As we come to The Lord’s Table this morning, we celebrate grace and peace found in the forgiveness in Christ. Let us profess the joy of our salvation in Christ!

REFLECTION

THOUGHTS FOR WORSHIP PREPARATION

Cheap grace means forgiveness of sins proclaimed as a general truth... an intellectual assent to that idea is held to be itself sufficient to secure remission of sins.

Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross.

Costly grace is the gospel. It is costly because it costs a man his life, and grace because it gives a man the only true life. It is costly because it condemns sin and grace because it justifies the sinner. Above all, it is costly because it cost God the life of his son... it is grace because God did not reckon his Son too dear a price to pay for our life. Costly grace is the Incarnation of God....

When Christ calls a man, He bids him come and die....

That is why the rich young man was so loath to follow Jesus, for the cost of his following was the death of his will. In fact, every command of Jesus is a call to die, with all our affections and lusts. -- Dietrich Bonhoeffer, The Cost of Discipleship Love so amazing, so Divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all. -- Issac Watts This, the pow’r of the cross: Christ became sin for us; Took the blame, bore the wrath— We stand forgiven at the cross. -- Keith Getty

GRACE AND PEACE The gospel that we have for the world— for our lost dad or sister or neighbor or classmate or colleague or unreached people group— the gospel that we have is the good news that God purchased peace by the death of his Son and offers it to sinners who believe in Jesus.

MORNING WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS VIDEO

THE MORNING HYMN AMAZING GRACE

We have the good news that God’s omnipotent wrath against sinners has been taken away through the death of Jesus for sin. And everyone who believes is reconciled to him freely by grace.

The enmity between God and repentant sinners was brought to an end. And the enmity between races and factions in Christ was brought to an end desire to offer God praise. So Christ became our peace. That is, by grace, the gospel of peace. [John Piper]

HYMN OF PRAISE

THE LORD IS MY SALVATION The grace of God has reached for me And pulled me from the raging sea And I am safe on this solid ground The Lord is my salvation I will not fear when darkness falls His strength will help me scale these walls I’ll see the dawn of the rising sun The Lord is my salvation Who is like the Lord our God? Strong to save, faithful in love My debt is paid and the vict’ry won The Lord is my salvation My hope is hidden in the Lord He flow’rs each promise of His Word When winter fades I know spring will come The Lord is my salvation In times of waiting, times of need When I know loss, when I am weak I know His grace will renew these days The Lord is my salvation And when I reach my final day He will not leave me in the grave But I will rise, He will call me home The Lord is my salvation Glory be to God the Father Glory be to God the Son Glory be to God the Spirit The Lord is our salvation

THE AFFIRMATION OF FAITH HEIDELBERG CATECHISM Q. 1 and 2

LEADER: What is your only comfort in life and in death? CONGREGATION: That I am not my own,1 but belong— body and soul, in life and in death—2 to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ.3 He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood,4 and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil.5 He also watches over me in such a way6 that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven;7 in fact, all things must work together for my salvation.8 Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life9 and makes me wholeheartedly He commissioned 10 the preparation of willing and ready from now on to live for him.

The Catechism was soon divided into fifty-two sections, so that a section of the Catechism could be explained to the churches each Sunday of the year.

And there is nothing sweeter in all the world than to be at peace with God.

The good news of peace is that when Christ died and shed his blood for sin, two kinds of enmity were overcome.

The Heidelberg Catechism originated in Germany in 1562 under the authority of Elector Frederick III, who ruled the most important German province, the Palatinate, from his castle in Heidelberg.

a new catechism for guiding ministers and teachers in instructing people in the Christian faith.

And in the place of enmity comes peace.

“But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near in the blood of Christ For he is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down the dividing wall of hostility . . . and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby bringing the hostility to an end. And he came and preached peace to you who were far off [Gentiles!] and peace to those who were near [Jews!]; for through him we have access in one Spirit to the Father.’ Ephesians 2:13-18

THE HEIDELBERG CATECHISM

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER TIME

LOVE LUSTERS AT CALVARY • A PURITAN PRAYER My Father, Enlarge my heart, warm my affections, open my lips, supply words that proclaim ‘Love Lustres at Calvary.’ There grace removes my burdens and heaps them on thy Son, made a transgressor, a curse, and sin for me; There the sword of thy justice smote the man, thy fellow; There thy infinite attributes were magnified, and infinite atonement was made; There infinite punishment was due, and infinite punishment was endured. Christ was all anguish that I might be all joy, cast off that I might be brought in, trodden down as an enemy that I might be welcomed as a friend, surrendered to hell’s worst that I might attain heaven’s best, stripped that I might be clothed, wounded that I might be healed, athirst that I might drink, tormented that I might be comforted, made a shame that I might inherit glory, entered darkness that I might have eternal light. My Savior wept that all tears might be wiped from my eyes, groaned that I might have endless song, endured all pain that I might have unfading health, bore a thorny crown that I might have a glory-diadem, bowed his head that I might uplift mine, experienced reproach that I might receive welcome, closed his eyes in death that I might gaze on unclothed brightness, expired that I might forever live. O Father, who spared not thine own Son that thou mightest spare me, All this transfer thy love designed and accomplished; Help me to adore thee by lips and life. O that my every breath might be ecstatic praise, my every step buoyant with delight, as I see my enemies crushed, Satan baffled, defeated, destroyed, sin buried in the ocean of reconciling blood, hell’s gates closed, heaven’s portal open. Go forth, O conquering God, and show me the cross, mighty to subdue, comfort and save.
