JOHNSTON AREA The City of Johnston is conveniently located in the northwest section of the Des Moines metro area, just 20 minutes from the downtown business and financial district as well as the International Airport. Johnston has evolved into a new-century hot spot for business development, small or large. Commercial and industrial assessed valuation increased over 300% from 1992 to 2003. In addition to many local businesses and restaurants, commercial anchors include John Deere Financial and Dupont Pioneer. Johnston is one of the fastest growing cities in the state with a population of 17,278, and draws from the Des Moines metropolitan area of 500,000. That is an increase of 99.8% from the 2000 Census. Over 95% of the housing in the area is occupied. The mean age is 37 and almost 50% of people over 25 have a Bachelor’s degree or higher. CORE VALUES + Christ-Centeredness Keeping Christ at the center of everything we do and in how we live. The word of God, which points us to Christ, directs our thinking, teaching, and living. Prayer is our means of communicating with Christ, ensuring that we are guided by His Spirit and empowered by His grace. + Redemptive Community Living out our Christianity in community, motivated by the grace of Jesus. Relationships are a vital means of growth, care, and accountability as we seek to serve and love one another. God's grace through Jesus Christ motivates everything we are and everything we do. + Missional Living Being on mission with Jesus in Northwest Des Moines and around the world. Engaging our city and our world with the Gospel in a culturally relevant way is our mission as individuals and together as the church. Love for our city and works of compassion enhance our opportunities to share the Gospel.

WORSHIP MINISTRY + Godward Worship Our worship is primarily about God, not us. God is the audience. Therefore, our worship lyrics should be God-centered, Christ-centered, Gospel-centered. Scripture should guide our services. Our worship should be first and foremost vertical and then horizontal in response to the nature and character of God. The music we utilize should enhance the lyrics and direction of our worship. We also understand that music is one aspect of the overall worship to God, and that there are many other important aspects to designing an effective worship experience. + Authentic Worship Corporate worship must be led by worshippers. Corporate worship flows from private worship. We want people leading that have a heart for and understanding of the greatness of God and the reality of the Gospel. True worship admits brokenness and sin. It seeks healing and restoration in Christ. It confesses. It celebrates. It embraces both truth and emotion. All of this comes from a Worship Pastor that loves Christ, understands the Gospel, has a passion for His glory, and is able to lead others in those realities.

+ Consistent Worship Authenticity in worship does not negate the need for preparation, practice, and excellence in every aspect of corporate worship. We expect musicians to be developed, to be well-prepared, and to strive for excellence. We expect a worship experience that is not confusing, corny, or weird. It should engage mind and heart in an excellent way. + Engaging Worship We believe corporate worship is an experience of God’s truth and presence. We sing to God as the people of God. Music should be singable, other elements of the service should be understandable, and the development of a worship service should have congregational engagement as a high priority.
