Ministry Residency Program at Denver Seminary INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Youth Ministry Resident LOCATION: First Presbyterian Church of Golden ABOUT: https://goldenpresbyterian.org/ First Presbyterian Church of Golden is an established community of Christ followers in Golden, CO. Our church has a strong emphasis on spiritual formation that is evident in our worship and Christian education program. Presently, our youth group consists of 10 kids, including junior high and high school students. In addition to our weekly Christian Education classes and youth group events, we often collaborate with other youth groups in the Golden community. Our desire is to continue to provide opportunities for deeper discipleship among our youth, and build relationships with other youth in the community.

POSITION SUMMARY:  

  

Co-Lead Sunday Night Youth Group 4PM-6PM Discipleship and Outreach - Develop relationships with junior high and high school students and their friends through connecting throughout the week by visiting schools, getting lunch with students, attending their events and inviting them to participate in events throughout the week Facilitate Youth Christian Education Class Sunday Mornings 10:30AM-11:30AM during the school year Assist Pastor of Spiritual Formation with communication and administrative tasks related to youth (1-3 hours during week) Participate in youth retreats and mission trips (summer)

TUITION CONSIDERATION:

$3,000 Per Semester 10% tuition discount Taxable Living Stipend: No

ESTIMATED TIME COMMITMENT: : 12 hours per week      

Sunday mornings 10:30AM-11:30AM: during the school year you will co-lead a youth Christian Education class (1 hour) Sunday evenings 4PM-6PM: you will help lead our weekly youth group (2 hours) Preparation for Christian Education class and Sunday Night Youth Group Activities (2 hours) Worship with us at one of our weekend services (1 hour) Mentor youth, plan youth gatherings, communicate with youth volunteers and do outreach with local youth (5 hours) Meet weekly with Pastor of Spiritual formation for ministry mentoring (1 hour)

RESPONSIBILITIES: OBJECTIVES: As a Youth ministry intern, we will train you to:  Lead effective youth experiences that foster their spiritual formation  Mentor students individually  Teach effectively from the Bible and biblically based curriculum  Engage students in an intergenerational community CHARACTER PROFILE:

Love for youth ministry Strong relational skills Passion for developing Christ-centered relationships with youth both inside and outside of our church family Desire to grow as a teacher Engagement in your own Spiritual Formation and desire to become more like Christ in every area of your life Willing to commit to 2 years (mutually renewable each semester)

DEFINITION OF THE MINISTRY RESIDENCY PROGRAM: By Definition the Residency Program is an Internship and contains the following: 1. Similar ministry training as that available in and through schooling for future clergy; 2. This training is for the benefit of the trainee; 3. Resident is not a replacement for a regular employee, but works under close observation; 4. This program is considered to be of greater value to the trainee than to the employer; 5. Trainees are not necessarily entitled to a job at the completion of the program; 6. Employer and trainee understand that trainees are not entitled to wages for the time spent in training.
