NEW SWP® SYNTHETIC FIBER FROM CROWN ZELLERBACH

Because there's never been anything like it before.

SYNTHETIC STAPLE FIBER

SOFTWOOD CELLULOSE PULP

SWP synthetic fiber is a unique new fibrous form of high density polyethylene. SWP fiber offers both the advantages of cellulose fiber, whiteness and opacity, water dispersability (hydrophilic), high fibrillation and reasonable cost; plus, the thermoplastic properties normally asso ciated with high density polyethylene.

Now available in carload quantities. Worldwide. Presently, we are producing SWP syn thetic fiber in our Japanese joint-venture plant: Mitsui Zellerbach. As the market for this new and versatile fiber expands, we plan to add production capacity in the U.S.

Here's where you come in. Since the fiber is so new, and so versa tile, we've just scratched the surface of its potential. Here are just a few of the uses we've found for it. If they spark your imagi nation, send for our free sample kit and explore the potential uses of SWP fiber for yourself. Papers Embossed wallpapers, gift wrap, labels, "welded in place" overlays, book covers... you name it. All kinds of packaging including heat sealing sugar packets, tea bags and gas sterilizable pouches. Electrical cable wrapping, battery separators, condenser tissue... anything that can utilize the dielectric non-conductive properties of SWP fiber. The high opacity and brightness of SWP fiber provide unique printing capa bilities. Filter papers, photographic papers, chart papers...in fact any special applica tion paper in which the unique capabilities of SWP fiber can offer unique advantages. Paperboards Any of dozens of applications in which embossability is a particular advantage. Asbestos Replacement Start with building materials and special process filters. Molded Products Flower pots, porous pipe, cups, plates, paneling, molded automotive parts, thermoformed trays... SWP fiber does it all.

Non-Woven Fabric Use it as a binder fiber, either wet or dry-laid. Absorption Agent Oil spill cleanup. Industrial effluent cleanup. Carpet cleaning agent. Explore the possibilities. Reinforcing Agent SWP fiber has a broad application in non-wovens, plastics and building materials. But that's just the beginning.

Here are a few of the properties that make SWP fiber unique. Our manufacturing process permits us to uniformly control the fiber lengths over a fairly broad range and with high consis tency in lengths. SWP fiber grades in com mercial production have average lengths from 0.8 to 2.5 mm., although it is possible to attain fibers as short as 0.5 mm., and as long as 5.0 mm. Size distribution of fibers can be closely controlled. Thus, SWP fibers can be pro duced to match specific needs. The drainage resistance or freeness of SWP fiber can be closely controlled and is independent of fiber length. The range is that found typically in wood pulps. \

The high surface area of the Christ mas tree-shaped fibers of SWP accounts for its extremely high brightness and opacity and promotes unique adsorption and bond ing properties. SWP fiber is a thermoplastic material. This means that bonding and heat em bossing of the material may be quickly and permanently effected. SWP fiber is available in baled sheet* containing about 60% water. The baled material can easily be dispersed in water using convential paper mill equipment, or fluffed and dried with a simple mechanical setup.

Experiment with the unique characteristics of SWF fiber. Send for a complete set of free samples. We'll send you a complete kit including two of our present commercial grades which represent variations in fiber lengths and drainage characteristics. From there, we'd like to hear your ideas.
